Sands of Al-Kalim: How to incorperate the expansions into SoAK.

By Tremayne2, in Runebound

I have analyzed the challenges in SoAK, so that I could use expansions in SoAK.

It turns out the app. 50% of the challenges are stronger at night and 30% is equal strenght while app. 20% is strong by day.

Table A

  • 1-2 the challenge is stronger during day
  • 3-5 the challenge is equal strenght night and day.
  • 6-0 the challenge is weaker during day

Furthermore, the difference between a challenge night and day stats = 1, 80% of the time, 2, 10% of the time and 3, 10% of the time.

Table B

  • 1-8 = the difference is 1 between the night and day stat
  • 9 = the difference is 2 between the night and day stat
  • 0 = the difference is 3 between the night and day stat

So if you want to add an expansion to SoAK you can by using these rules.

Remove all Encounters from the expansion, but keep all events! (so adventure jewels are replenished)

How to determine a challenge stats.

If a challenge have Night/Day Life Point (LP), use these without modifications.

Any challenge that only does not have Night/Day LP, do the following;

  1. Roll a D10 to determine if the challenge is stronger at day, night or equal. (Roll A)
    Consult table A above to see by how much .
  2. If a challenge is stronger at day or at night then you must roll another D10 to determine, how much the challenge is stronger. (Roll B)
    Consult table B above to see by how much.

If it is Night and Roll A is;

  • 1-2, then the result of Roll B is deducted from the LP on the challenge.
  • 3-5, use the LP printed on the challenge.
  • 6-0, then the result of Roll B is added to the LP on the challenge.

If it is Day and Roll A is;

  • 1-2, then the result of Roll B is added to the LP on the challenge.
  • 3-5, use the LP printed on the challenge.
  • 6-0, then the result of Roll B is deducted from the LP on the challenge.

Note: when deducting the total can never be lower than 1.

Example 1:

It is Night and a challenge with LP = 2 is drawn. Roll A is a 4, the LP = 2 in this encounter.

Example 2:

It is Night and a challenge with LP = 2 is drawn. Roll A is a 6 and Roll B is a 9, the LP = 4 (2 from the challenge and + 2 from Roll B)

Example 3:

It is Day and a challenge with LP = 2 is drawn. Roll A is a 8 and Roll B is a 5, the LP = 1 (2 from the challenge and - 1 from Roll B).
Note Roll B is not required since no matter what the outcome of Roll B would be the LP must at least be 1.
