Decided to put together a massive pdf of all my scanned WFRP books. Need your help deciding on the contents.

By GoblynKing, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

So after seeing that some others on these boards are having a similar problem with the myriad of "splat" books that have been produced for 3rd Edition so far, I've decided to start compiling all of my books into a single fully indexed pdf reference tome that will allow easy access to all play mechanics within a single volume.

Quick disclaimer: I by no means intend for anything produced from this project to be used in any way other than for my own personal use.

Since my group plays with most if not all of the components produced, I will be excluding any published material that refers to or helps facilitate playing WFRP "Lite" (i.e. without most components).

I currently own every expansion produced, with the exception of Black Fire Pass (BFP), Hero's Call (HC), and of course, The Enemy Within (tEW)….but for the sake of convenience, let's assume that I do already own'em (I do plan on purchasing these in the near future, so the information is relevant).

Here's how I'm breaking it down:

  • All relevant play mechanics information from the hardcover Player's Guide (PG), that's everything rule related, but excluding the chapters which list lite play mechanics, careers, talents, party "sheets", actions, spells, etc. I've decided to use the info from the PG instead of the Core Set (CS) due to the better organized layout, and inclusion of better examples, etc.
  • All relevant play mechanics information from the hardcover Game Master's Guide (GMG), excluding any sections that refer to "lite" play, and any sections containing d% lists or reprinted information that can be found on cards/handouts, etc.
  • All relevant background information and ability descriptions in the hardcover Creature Guide (CG). This would basically be the first half of the book, which lists all creature by type/group and explains their background and details their various abilities, but excludes that stats and actions in the second half of the book.
  • All relevant rules expansion information from any of the expansions released so far. This would include the disease rules and expanded priest rules from Signs of Faith (SoF), the expanded magic rules and mutation rules from Winds of Magic (WoM), expanded combat mechanics/severe wound rules from Omens of War (OoW), social mechanics from Lure of Power (LoP), expanded race and high level play rules from HC, rules regarding witchcraft from the back of The Witch's Song (tWS), and expanded dwarf/rune rules from BFP.

I'm excluding the Game Master's Toolkit since most of what's included in the GMG covers that territory much more successfully.

Since I have access to a color scanner at work, I'll be working on this project during whatever spare time I have whilst at my job, but probably bring the files home for editing.

That being said, here's the order I want to tackle this in:

  1. Scan all relevant information from the books listed above.
  2. Assemble in an order that makes sense
  3. Renumber all pages
  4. Create a fully indexed table of contents reflecting the new page order
  5. Fully index the entire pdf file for easy navigation.

What I need from the community is mainly the following:

  • Should I include or exclude the background fluff found in most of the books? Should the pdf only contain rules information?
  • What order should everything be listed in? Should I put all magic information from the PG, WoM, etc back to back?
  • Should I create seperate sections for player info and gm info? Should the tome be divided up or should all this info just be integrated?
  • Should I include any fan created content (Liber Fanatica for example)?

When all is said and done, I hope to have a handy single volume pdf file that I can easily flip through at the game table using a laptop or iPad. It will cut down on table clutter and make for a really convenient rules reference that can be expanded in the future if necessary.

So what do ya think?

Well, if you have the time go this way.

If you don't have the time, but a bit of money, buy the pdf's and extract the pages you want from them to create your big pdf book. Quality will also be better like this.

very nice idea indeed. i would maybe divide it up into 2 tomes:

  • rules, tokens, monster information… that would include all the rules you listed above and maybe any of liber fanatica
  • background info. any info that might be vital to the game or handy to look up during playing. that way you don't have to flip through pages of background info when you are looking for a specific rule

but very nice organization so far!

Seems to me that there are very few actual rules in most of the supplements - I think you'd be better off summarising them on a single page and pdfing that. Apart from anything else, the act of writing them up will probably mean that you remember them and don't ever need to refer to the pdf itself!
