5+ Reasons to reward Party Fortune

By Amehdaus, in WFRP Gamemasters

Knowing when to reward party fortune is something I often forget to do as the rules are intrinsically vague. So, I'd like to pool some DM minds here. I figure I'll start it off by listing 5 situations at the table when I would reward fortune to the Party card. I invite everyone else to provide 5 additional situations for which you have (or would) reward party fortune -- and thus to compile a nice listing to help DMs think outside our boxes and get an idea of how others use this mechanic.

1) Overhearing a roleplay exchange between two (or more) players conversing in character without prompting by GM
2) A party member succeeds in a Daunting skill check.
3) When a "Mini-boss" is revealed and/or defeated.
4) A party member saves the life/limb of another person -- whether party member, innocent, or villain.
5) At the end of a scene during which the party acted "in character" according to their party traits.

I forget to give them out all the time because of the party refresh system but always remember to give them about in the savage world rule set. I unfortunately have nothing to contribute but I will be taking your list and putting it next to my monitor when I play to remind me to reward my guys in future. Thanks for the tips.

I did give one out once when our wizard role played his time delay miscast and spoke really slowly so maybe roleplaying disadvantages in an entertaining manner?

since my party also thends to forget about spending their fortune points alot i also kinda tend to forgetting on grantig them.

we have a rather large group with 5-7 players at each sessions so it also takes a long time until the pool refreshes and everybody gets one. so we give out the fortune points to particular players normally.

most times they get those for great ideas or good roleplaying, that way they always think of new ways to surprise me, that makes the fun for me!

Same point... not a lot to add as we're not all that good at it yet, but that's a great starting list. Thanks.

Actually, as I think of it, our problem is the players rarely use fortune outside of combat, which tends to the end of the session. Plus, I always forget, do players start each session with 3 fortune or does the number carry over from session to session, because that makes a difference.

they start with 3 points each session, no matter how much they had left the last session
