Next on the chopping block: Rolling for Basic Guarded Position and Assess the Situation

By Emirikol, in WFRP House Rules

I know several of you already have gotten rid of the roll for this, however it finally made the cut for me. Rather than waste time making a roll that will be automatically made, and hence waste time, I've finally house ruled it: You simply get the good effects on the /basic/ card. Done.

Should speed up the game significantly.

Considering that Intuition and Discipline arent the most used skills ..... I cant help feel you nerf them a bit when you remove the roll - how about automatically giving out the basic effect ....with the advanced effect being granted to those trained then??

Another way to do it might be to let the players decide if they want the basic success line without rolling, or if they want to roll to have the oppurtunity to get better success lines at the risk of failiure.

Might speed it up while keeping Intuition and Discipline useful.

Hi,

Also useful to consider that some characters may have invested in talents to compliment tests on these action cards. The merchant in our group has Improved Guarded Position and the talent Clear Minded (lose 1 stress for boon on Disc check). He has three permanent insanities, one of them Gibbering terrors, and these two cards plus Improved Block represent his only chance at physically or mentally not falling apart. Removing the Disc check would deprive the player of a valid survival tactic.

Just my thoughts though happy.gif

I see players fail these rolls at times and the question of superior success is relevant as well as the possibility of side boons/banes for additional stress/fatigue. I don't find they slow down the game either. I like making use of the extended options for boons/banes/comets/stars and using every role as a chance to see someting "unexpected" happen.

Auto success for the basic benefit is the equivalent of Skill Mastery at the Heroic Level (rank 4+) from the preview in the Sigmarite POD product, so this also reduces the return on investment of Skill Mastery in relevant skills - which allows auto success for basic one hammer success instead of roll.

I might just make them advanced and/or have a minimum characteristic requirement of 3+ (like other stuff) as well. If grapple, flirt and bribe are advanced, defensive and assess seem like they should be advanced ;)
