Standard attack question

By fourtykiller, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Is a standard attack with a ranged weapon considered a single shot, or can it be a semi or full auto shot and not get the bonus. This is coming from the fire for effect squad action that allows standard attacks out of turn. The verbage on the rule for standard attack makes it seem like its a single shot, but its being argued both ways with our group. Also, if it is a single shot, can someone wielding a heavy bolter not use this squad action?

A standard attack ranged attack is single shot. Auto fire is always a Full Action. A character with a heavy bolter who wants to participate is advised to quick-draw his bolt pistol.

Hellfire shells can be fired as a Standard Attack from a Heavy. And you only need the one 60 round drum to last the whole mission.

God, yes!

Any devastator demanding he 'really' wants to take the WHOLE backpack (250 rounds) worth of hellfire rounds deserves a good smack on the head.

That's not a bad idea. Finally a use for hellfires in the heavy bolter.

Thanks for the replies. One of our group members is arguing that you can make a semi auto or full auto attack as a standard attack without the bonus's from doing the full auto or semi auto action. While the rules are somewhat vague, I am not sure how he's coming to this conclusion, as it would sort of obsolete the semi auto or full auto actions.

He's just wrong.
