Trained skills (sorry if this has been asked before)

By Mikikala, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Hi all,

This may have been asked/clarifed in earlier errat/posts but non of my searches are coming up with any results so sorry if I'm repeating any thing, but I'm looking for what a 'trained skill' is, such as the Tactical Marine gets command as a 'trained' skill, yet all Marines get command as a basic skill anyway. Now I'm thinking it should be 'Talented' instead. However I do have a player whom seems to think that if you only have skills as basic in Deathwatch they should be rolled as half stat! I've looked through the main rule book and unless it's the 'can't see the wood for the trees' senario I can't find anything about 'Trained skills'.

Any help please (before I drop the Space Hamster of Doom on the head of the player for repeatedly questioning the GM! :) )

Your player is right. See pp.92-93. This is a rule common to all FFG-WH40K game lines, not just Deathwatch.

Trained Basic = roll at normal Characteristic + any Skill advances

Untrained Basic = roll at 1/2 Characteristic

Trained Advanced = same as Trained Basic

Untrained Advanced = roll not possible
