Seeking Habercrybs Info.

By Sturn, in WFRP Gamemasters

Planning a series of adventures that may delve into the Habercrybs, the hills south of Altdorf. I can't seem to find much detail at all when searching online other then:

"The Hagercrybs are notable for their ancient tombs, remnants of a forgotten age when Unberogen tribesmen laid their chiefs to rest under mounds protected by guardian spirits. The lure of treasure tempts many would-be tomb robbers, but very few return."

More details would be nice, so if someone knows of a source please tell. A map would be wonderful. Some previous 1e or 2e adventure/source that detailed this area? My pre-3e books only include 1e and 2e core books.

Hello Sturn

I cannot recall any detailed description of the Habercrybs. I have two sourcebooks of Altdorf (one from 1st and 1 from 2nd editions) but they deal mainly with the city itself. I will try to look deeper into the library this weekend. All I can offer you is this map Map%20Altdorf_v2.jpg?w=220d6edc Map%20Altdorf_v2.jpg?w=220d6edc

But this is nothing that you cannot get from Gitzman's fantastic map.

Yeah download Gitzmans map... he's now the godfather of all WFRP mapping. You just zoom in and copy the area you need. I also use it for player maps and just manipulate it like I want with colour and tint. Gitzmans map is absolutely fantastic. I love maps for rpgs, so perhaps I'm a bit biased. But you can't question the quality of it.

Thanks, I have a folder of Gitzman's maps. I was hoping there was something out there for a previous release or fan-made that details the Hagercrybs by text and/or map. I have no problem making my own, but was worried I would end up rewriting something that had already been done. When dabbling in an official setting I always like to remain true to both canon and any good fan-made previous materials.

The only information I have so far suggests the Hagercrybs are:

1. Frequented by bandits as a safe place to retreat to.
2. Speckled with ancient Unberogen tombs.
3. Tomb robbers rarely return.
4. Is "home only" to shepherds. This contradicts the information I've found about it being a lair of bandits.

My thoughts, tell me if you think I may be conflicting with something previously released:

The Hagercrybs is lightly populated. There are a few small villages occupied by backwards and hardy folk that would like to be left alone by the "outsiders" of the rest of the Empire. Villages are thus self-sufficient but shephards will show up from time to time to trade with towns on the outskirts of the Hagercrybs. Bandits are mixed amongst the population and possibly protected somewhat. Some of the, "Hagers", may resent their fellow villagers that have turned to banditry, fearing it will bring undue Imperial attention to their hills. Others are actually friendly to the local bandits since they bring in outside income and goods to the isolated settlements and protection from any beastman herds that creep out of the Reikwald (or are already hidden amongst the hills).

Outsiders will not be very welcome. Outsiders asking where to find the, "bandits", will get a cold shoulder at least and may end up in a later confrontation by the trail side. Outsiders that are obvious treasure seekers are tolerated since they typically spend lots of coin before inevitably disappearing into one of the ancient tombs in the hills. From time to time these tomb robbers are successful, but if they brag in a village before leaving the Hagercrybs they may meet some of the local bandits. Other proud Hagers may resent tomb robbers since they claim to be descendants of the Unberogen and no one should be messing with their ancestors' tombs.

Your thoughts? I've followed the Warhammer setting as a collector of RPGs through the years, but only skimmed the lore until now.

That's about all you're going to find.

I did a lot of digging for material for Liber Fanatica #7's scenario, "Revenant" and I couldn't find much beyond what you found. It seems that it's an area rife with possibilities of old looted tombs and undead!

Lure of power also notes that a von Bruner has a reclusive home there.

Thanks. Does it mention about what part of the Hargercrybs? I have a map I'm penciling in notes upon.

I've also found notes that the Hagercrybs has several old exhausted mines. There appears to be only one mine still open.

Not beyond "fortified mansion in midst of Hagercrybs" (note "ger" not "ber"). His name is Steirlich von Bruner and he is Steward of Grauwerk, so presumably that's the mansion/location name.
