Citizens of the Empire - Campaign Reports!

By Fenderstat, in WFRP Gamemasters

Hey Guys

This is my local game group campaign that we have been doing for about a year. We initially used Obsidian Portal to track NPC's and past actions but then all the others in the group couldn't be arsed anymore and left it all to me.

So

What I've done is cleaned it up a little and now I'll show it to you! We play every week and I update it after each session (and I will make a point of it if you are going to read it) it's basically a macro of what went on the session however I have put significant effort into linking all of the characters together on the wiki, I invite you to check it out.

How the games are run is that I will Gm one campagin then my mate Gm's the other, this way we both get a go. The only time the campaign is updated however is when I run one it so you might see a few weeks with only a log from my character! Otherwise there is a breakdown of session and any character logs that I put in.

Check it out here!

We currently have an all human party of

Arman Schutzstaffel - Messenger (played by Intrepid)

Levi Schleck - Forger (played by Tuttle)

Forrester Gruhn - Pit Fighter ex Thug (played by MAGIC)

I don't have a character at the moment as my previous character is dead (*tear) and I have yet to introduce mine into the campaign that i'm running

Session 5 is up!

So this campaign is a bit different because everyone has there own agendas and the only time they have done something together was at the start. It basically pays out like a series of individual stories which intermingle together to form one big plot finale at the end, as they spend time with each other these seemingly random group of strangers find a lot more common with each other then they think....

Your thoughts, opinions and criticisms are always welcome

Well this was an interesting session.

Forrester returned to the Black Boys (main bad guys) sold his soul to Khorne, found out Levi is the one he has been pursuing for two years and killed him in one attack.

Get this right

Forrester had beserker rage active, was frenzied and had the mark of Khorne. Forrester did thunderous blow and rolled four fatigues taking his total damage to 18! Levi had toughness 3 with one soak and 12 wounds! Poor old levi never stood a chance.

Now were down to one surviving party member who has no idea what happened to the rest of his group! He hasn't seen them in days. This will be most interesting when the new party comes across Forrester as an enemy npc later in the campaign, Forrester has a strength and toughness of 4 with 16 wounds and can ko party memebrs in a single attack. Quite then nemesis indeed!

New party members will be introduced next session including mine! We haven't had four party members for over a month.

Wow but don't you go through them quickly...

We actually have never had a proper functioning party since we got our new player (we have definitely had more fun though!)

First group one of the party members was bad and that pushed one of the good party members over the edge and attacked him. The bad party member was supposed to case out a cult but instead tried to bargain with them to ambush the good character but he was beaten to a pulp. When the good character found out about this he killed the bad character by beating him to death in secret and told the rest of the party he died heroically.

Next character was another bad character and pushed the same good character over the edge again and the good character turned himself over to the authorities and ratted out the party. The road wardens attempted to arrest them but was killed by the bad character and our troll slayer who then fled the party as wanted criminals. The road wardens came back and arrested the injured party member (who was not able to escape even though he had nothing to do with the murder) and arrested him. The good character and the wizard went on trial, good character escaped as he did nothing wrong but the other was convicted of break and entering (really good seen actually, one of the players played the judge, the other the characters lawyers and myself the prosecution lawyer) and was sentenced to seven days in jail. When the road wardens arrested him they roughed him up and he caught a disease and couldn't shake it. He died in jail four days later to a worsening disease.

Now one party member had been pursuing the other for several years but didn't know his identity, he found out and killed him on the spot.

We have decided our next party will be all good mates and will have no conflicting history and or values

Session 7 is up!

So two new characters this session

Jens Voight - human servant

Gunter Bieber - human apprentice grey wizard.

Gunter is a funny character, he is a 15 year old kid with identity issues and is a massive emo. He is also socially awkward and extremely shy and complains like only teenagers can.

Jens is also a funny one in that he works for a retired PC by the name of Lindenberg Shulze (Dr Shulze). Jens idolises Lindenberg's (highly exaggerated) tales of adventuring and looks to him as a role model. It's all very tongue and cheek because when I used to play Lindenberg he was a massive coward, avoided effort and hardship at any cost, lied about everything he could and took credit for everything other people had done. He also made it rich by pilfering the finances of his dead companions before I retired him for roleplay purposes in the adventure A History of Violence. A home brew campaign which delved in his backstory, it's also on the blog and I recommend you go back through the logs and read it.

Jens was also an unnamed NPC in the adventure prior (ran by the alternate GM) the previous party members (who are all dead and one of them is now an enemy) met him in Schilderheim when he left his employer after a heated and mysterious argument. They also saved him and his master from bandits much earlier in the campaign.

Well, 4th character Erika Weiss is finally introduced.

Erika is my character and I decided to go for a different theme. Instead of the character who exists and only gets better when they are in the party I've taken the angle of my character having to re-learn all of her skills. The story is she was beaten and left for dead and has been in a coma for a month.

Now that she is out she is in bad shape. Her head is shaven and she has a series of surgical scars running across her skull where the shallyans did their best to keep her brains from falling out. Physically she is emancipated from not eating much while in a coma so she is nowhere near as strong as she used to be, her head injuries and bed time has reduced her motor skills so that she is nowhere near as capable as she used to be and simple tasks which she could do when she was well are no extremely difficult. Over time she will fill out, regain her strength and body shape, grow her hair back and look more like a woman and less like a mental patient.

Read her bio on the site, instead of the fresh faced adventurer (either forced out of their home or a sudden character development) I've decided to play an old hand at it for once and Erika's been at it for 15 years. If there was a career called adventure she would be it. The plan is to create the ultimate all rounder dungeon crawler, a bit of fighting, a bit of sneaking, a bit of skullduggery and a bit of horse action. Essentially I am channelling my Skyrim character.

So her career is thief (which is what she used to be when she is young) but when she finishes the end of her second career (mercenary) she will back to where she was skill wise before she was attacked.

Lindenberg (the first pc character I ever created and now an npc quest giver) bit the bullet this session, killed by a clan Eshin Assasin. Sad times :(

Well there was a whole lot of fighting in this. First fight was standard but with the addition of a Skaven chef and an unstoppable rat swarm which they safely trapped and contained. Second one was a bit different. We had three clanrats who could summon d3 skavenslaves to fight the Pcs. In order to kill the summoners you had to kill his minions first. Fortunately three out of 4 party members have ranged weapons and with addition of the poison globe they made short work of that.

The rat ogre fight was a good one. The party fired shot after shot into this thing who took three turns to get into range as one of it's turns was interrupted with the use of the full draw action by Arman (a very good ability). In one attack it dealt 3 criticals, jens and broke his shield but was taking down next round by Erica via shooting it in the face with an arrow. The packmaster got a meagre attack off before being destroyed, it tried to do an awesome attack but failed miserably so he was a bit of a let down for a gm point.

Let me know what you think. I also drew a picture of Erika, check it out in her character page. Let me know what you think. Thoughts, opinions and suggestions are always welcome.

Well looks like Arman found where Forrester got to! Killing the Black Boys leader and converting the rest of them to Khorne! Whoops! Arman stuck up for that guy when he was in the party now look what happened, Forrester killed his girlfriend and now leads the gang that is trying to destroy his cult as well as being a champion of Khorne, with friends like these eh? Too bad Arman doesn't know the whereabouts of his other missing party member Levi but I know, Forrester chopped his head off! Looks like the party is off to war next session, the forces for Ranald vs the newly recruited forces of Khorne. The only seasoned fighter in the group is Erika and she is half dead from being in a coma for a month, luckily the Cult of Ranald has many friends...

I'm am happy/sad to report the death of another player character and the death of an ex player character (who was being controlled by his orignal player), bringing the official total to three PC's killed this Adventure! Four if you include my old PC Lindenberg who was an NPC when he died. Go me!

Forrester who was MAGIC's character who left the party after killing Tuttle's character Levi came back as an NPC in the final fight (he was being controlled by his old player MAGIC). After being riddled with arrows fired by Erika (played by me) find weakness plus sniper shot is a lethal combo for dealing with soak, he knocked out my character in one attack (dealing two criticals), next turn killed an NPC in one attack, then outright killed Arman (played by Intrepid) in one attack dealing three criticals which took his critical wounds to 4 (as he had sustained one earlier). T3 +4 crits = Dead character. Forrester was killed next turn by Jens (played by tuttle). 3 kills in three turns? If Forrester played cricket he'd be on a hat trick!

This session had a big fight in it with about 200 guys in it. How I went about this was I narrated the battle and had the characters to roll a couple of environment damages to represent fatigue/damage for fighting over time and let them narrate what they were doing occasionally. Once they got into encounter mode with Forrester once per two turns PC's would roll a expertise die, on a comet they got someone from their side. When it was Forrester turn (NPC being played by a character, PNPC????) he'd roll the same and on a comet he'd get someone from his side too.

That brings my stint as GM to an end. The new GM will be moving us onto "Grapes of Wrath" from Pludered Vaults. I won't be writing adventure logs for this as I am no longer running the show but I will be posting character logs from PC Erika Weiss to keep you updated on our adventures.

Hi just came across this thread now ... havent had time to check out Obsidian portal yet, but sounds like a very fun campaign - I will definatly read the more detailed logs and looking forward to read about your upcoming adventures aplauso.gif

Well I'm back as GM, The Grapes of Wrath only went for 1 and a quarter sessions! It went by so quick I didn't even get to write a character log before it was my turn again. We've moved onto the one sheet download of the daily empire "Sweet Marrow" by forum regular Gallows. I can proudly say that two of our players were fearing for their characters life in genuine fear as well! it's a good little scenario guys, it's easy to run and even easier to play in, just don't get eaten!

Well this was a close one, we were one turn away from having two characters killed (literally, they were unconscious and were being dealt one critical per turn) and one of them walked out with two permanent wounds, garish and impressive scars. Schlaff poisoning sure does take it out of you. This will be the last log for a while, the other GM is taking over and I won't do a log for my character (decided it wouldn't suit her) and when it's my turn we'll be moving onto Deadlands for a few adventures to shake things up a bit.

Nice read - sounds like a tough fight indeed ....

The funny thing was it wasn't. The peasants all ranged from str2-3 and had about 7 wounds, normally they'd be towast. the blacksmith had St4 t4 however. What got us is that **** schlaff poisoning! So lack of hitting due to those blacks plus fatigue penalties combined with superior (although inferior numbers) and a lack of armour spells doom for the wfrp PC. Just the way I like it.

well that just goes to show that its not just the simple stats of the opponents which can make a fight hard - its as much to do with circumstances such as the schlaff ... or in other circumstances whether its possible for ranged characters to maneuver keeping his distance to avoid getting involved in hand2hand fighting ... or if its possible for the characters to face off against a larger group in a choke point. - circumstances (and other controllike effects such as fear & terror) can drastically change any encounter .....
