The current rules state that to transition from one career to another, is 4 advancements - 1 for any similar traits and -1 of you are human.
When thinking of how a player of mine would trasition to a Witch Hunter from Barber Surgeon I started to wonder what the lore was on Witch Hunters and how would he join the Order of Sigmar (I may have that name wrong here). I thought that there would have be certain things he would have to be able to do to join the order before becoming a witch hunter, having piety for example, and literacy (education).
So I started thinking, what if transition points actually went to certain skills, or talents that the career demands?
For example, for my player to become a witch hunter:
The order demands study in the holy text and rites of Sigmar
- Transition point 1 goes to having Education acquired
- if the player needs 2 points to fully acquire education, due to not having it as a class skill, this increases his transition cost by +1
- If the player already has Education acquired, then the player gains specialization (Holy Text of Sigmar or something)
From his studies, the character must learn proper rites to Sigmar
- The 2nd transition point goes to Acquiring Piety
- if the player needs 2 points to fully acquire Piety, due to not having it as a class skill, this increases his transition cost by +1
- If the player already has Piety acquired, then the player gains specialization
The character must have a permanent insanity
- The character either already has one, or during his time in training, the order exposes him to the reality of daemonic artifacts and text and the player acquires an insanity.
If a player is human, he still reduces any costs by 1 (in this case, only humans can be witch hunters)
So anyway, I was wondering if it would be cool to do something like this, or similar (throw in your ideas), with all career transitions. Any feedback or ideas are welcome!
