Got a little carried away...

By doc_cthulhu, in WFRP House Rules

...and ordered five different sets of d6s.

For what?

I found this great tutorial of how to imprint images into dices. I love WFRP3 system but I think it is a little clumsy for other systems. Especially the dices would ruin my immersion. So I decided to drop the stances, boon/banes, chaos stars... well all special outcomes and print the dices with only + and - symbols. I'm still considering about adding "and" and "but" outcomes (according to FU system hinted at this forum a while back) to fortune and misfortune dices. Actions as they are are out (though I'll keep the basic actions) as is the career system.

So what I'm left with?

I'll still have the characteristics and skills (though they might be named differently), talents might stay (though they might be "balanced" with hindrances), diseases, mutations, insanities and the core of the system.

It is all still in very early stage but I'm liking it more and more with every idea I've.

And what is best (at least for FFG) I'll still be buying the WFRP supplements as they will most likely include stuff that will be interesting to use.

Hopefully I'll find time to start a blog on this project. As I'm quite busy with LF currently.

What other game world are you thinking of using them with?

I was prepping a game for my kids today and thought the same thing that the other symbols get in the way right now. I may have to try that technique.

In a pinch you could use un-cut dice and a sharpie marker :) That technique above will give a much better look though (make sure you ink them well when you're done, because the ink could run if they get wet).

If painted you must seal the dices with varnish. But when burned as on the tutorial above the symbols should not fade in use. At least according to the maker of the tutorial.

I've been planning a longer campaign that takes place in a single city in America for a few years now. Players all have a family (in the sense of sons of previous/fathers of coming characters) to play and most times it will be a bigger adventure that links into the background story. So we'll be playing (if we ever get there...) scenarios from western to sci-fi (gaslight, 1930's, cyberpunk etc. in the middle).

Now this would require an enormous amount of writing but I trust my players quite a lot on this so we'll probably come up with the details needed as we go along.

Some progress:

DICES

Characteristic: +1,+1,+1,+2,-,-
Skill: +1,+1,+1,+2,+3,-
Difficulty: -1,-1,-2,BUT,-,-
Fortune: +1,+1,AND,-,-,-
Missfortune: +1,+1,BUT,-,-

So Reckless and Conservative are left out as are most of the symbols. We have been thinking about adding a critical die that is given by the GM in dire situations, when the scene demands it or player has a creative story allowing him to buy it with Fortune:

Critical: CRIT, BUT, AND, +1, -2 ja X2

PDFs

Skill lists and weapons for westerns have been done also.

Now I also have the character sheet done (for western). You can check it HERE .

Great blog for custom dice !

I like how you made the WFRP3 system into a universal rpg system! Guess it could appeal to equal part WFRP and WH40K RPG fans that doesn't want to use a different system for both games!

Oh by the way, I've shuffle through your "Village of Caradué" pdf and... since I'm french, found some "french sounding" things a little wierd. Want a heads-up of stuff you could do to improve it? (though, I won't be mad if you don't care about that. I'm just offering :P )

I'd prefer you give your info before I sent a questing knight on your way saying you're hoarding a damsel in distress! :D

I.e. Yes, please.

Missive sent Milore :)

A couple moths of feverish (in literal sense) writing and what started as "Warhammer really lite" turned into a whole new mash-up of rules. I managed to spark some additional interest in other gamers as well so it seems there just might be a future for this set. I mean other than your regular "hey I created a gaming system for my own group and then forgot it".

The layout artist is currently working on the rules but I hope we'll get alpha rules out at the end of this year.

Inspiration for making the whole thing can be found at THIS tumlbr blog that is dedicated for the gaming system's "official" background fluff/setting. Which is kind of funny as nothing is written yet...

But that's not the point! As one of the main ideas behind this system was to allow it to be used in any genre.

Let's hope this sparked some new interest!
