Opposed Focus Power Test

By TechVoid, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Hi guys,

I wonder a bit about an opposed Focus Power Test. On page 185 is written

"You may add a bonus to your Focus Power Test equal to 5 times the Psy Rating used for that power."

So, on the one hand I do not fully understand the motivation for that rule. At first, a bonus is not given if you simply make a Focus Power Test. Only if you make an opposed roll. So I guess this should somehow show that it is harder for an enemy to withstand if you invoke more power.

This leads me to the question: Would an enemy also gain a bonus if he as also a Psy Rating? I mean otherwise it would be hard for me to understand why the Space Marine should gain a bonus while contesting his mind with another psysker and the enemy does not.

What do you think?

Hmm... in previous games, it was added all the time, not just for Opposed rolls.

Plus, all the examples, regardless of them being opposed or not, include adding the +5 per Psy Rating to the roll.

I'd say it's just a typo, and the +5 bonus per Psy Rating is meant to apply to all Focus Power rolls.

No,

according to the errata the example on page 185 is corrected in that way that the Focus Test is a challenging (+0) Willpower Test.

So far as I understand it, normaly there is no bonus given based on your psy rating.

Correct me if my understanding is also wrong but I seem to understand this from the rules. For Opposed Focus Power Test, the Psy Rating is added. So example for a librarian, this only applies when manifesting a psychic power or making an opposed focus power test. So Let's say he has a willpower base score of 40 and a Psy Rating of 3. So he needs to roll under 40+ (3x 5)= 55.

For ordinary willpower tests, the Psy rating is not added. For Opposed Focus Power Tests, the party with more degrees of successes wins.

That is how I understand it. And my question is now, if anone 'in the party' with a psy rating is allowed to add a bonus to his Will Power. Why should only the 'active' part get a bonus based on the psy rating for opposed tests.

I would generalize it to: "For opposed tests anybody with a psy rating adds to bonus of 5 times PR to his Willpower."

That is all I am asking for.
