Question: Blue Thunder Scenario 4 Ruling Please Help!

By jowisu, in Dust Tactics Rules Discussion

Question 1: It says on Scenario 4 that on the 4th turn I can bring back any unit. Does that include a Hero?

Question 2: IF yes can I bring back a hero attached to a different squad?

Thanks! BTW Great game! Loving it!

I would say Yes to both questions. I would assume in this mission that a destroyed unit might have really just been "scattered" rather than outright killed.

That said, the command squad command doesn't allow you to bring back heroes, but I don't think that's necessarily applicable here.

While the rules don't specify it, I'd rule that you can't bring back the same hero, it would take away from their uniqueness.

Question 1: Yes, you can bring back a hero since it is also considered to be a unit.

Question 2: No, if you are only allowed to bring back one unit then you cant attach a hero to a squad since it would mean you would bring back two units (functioning as one).

I dont think it takes away from the uniquness since it says "bring back", implying that if the unit was "lost" and then brought back it could mean that the unit just was temporarly out of comission/injured.

The rules actually don't say anything about bringing a unit back for this scenario. It says you have 4 AP starting on turn 4, and each subsequent turn, to spend on a new unit (upgraded to 40 AP when the points changed).

You can't bring a hero that has been lost back, regardless. Command Squads cannot do this, and since Heroes are unique, once they are lost in a game, they are gone. However, if you have not used a hero in the battle yet, then you should be able to use them on their own or joined with a squad, as long as the point total is below 40, since that's all you have to spend each turn starting on turn 4. All other units should be valid, provided you have the miniatures required. So if you only have 1 set of Laser Grenadier miniatures, and they are eliminated, you can purchase them again to "reuse" them.

Hope this helps

Uhhh, I respect your opinion, but I respectfully disagree. should we play an entire operation from scenario 1 to the end, and if my hero dies at the first scenario, does that mean I can't use him/her in the next mission because he/she is unique?

I think it does help, thanks! I agree with almost everything you say. :P

I disagree however about the Command squad point you made, this isn't your normal game because there are different rules that come into play. And I think that the command squad ability is different because a.) It is not a dead unit brought back to life, it is reinforcements, plus like I said this isn't your normal game, this is a scenario with special rules, not an ability, but a rule.

However I think it would be against the rules to attach a hero to a different squad after being put into play again, for one the rulebook clearly states that you MUST attach the squad at the BEGINNING of the game, and a hero CANNOT attach itself to another squad.

Thanks to all who replied, and sorry for the double post, there is no edit button. Sorry mods.

Of course not. By that logic you couldn't play scenario 2 at all if the attackers lost scenario 1, since their whole campaign would have already failed and they would be all dead. There is practically zero continuity between scenarios (the only example I can think of is the destroyed wall in BT: Counterattack) so the uniqueness of heroes doesn't really apply. But on the same mission, I'd rather maintain some semblance of logic. Of course this is not an official ruling, since the scenario text clearly says nothing against bringing a hero back, it's just my personal ruling that I'd prefer a dead hero to remain dead.

The hero should have to come back zombified.

The command squad rule applies to ALL games. A command squad cannot bring back a hero. Period.

You can use the hero's for each scenario, regardless if they were "killed" in a previous scenario. I just feel the rules are rather clear that if a hero is lost in a game (or scenario), then they are out until that game (or scenario) is over. Heroes are unique , so they can only have 1 use in each game (or scenario). Where as Command Squads are limited to one per armor class at a time in each game (or scenario), so if they are lost, they can be brought back as reinforcements.
