Questions regarding Squad Mode abilities

By Yuri03, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Reading through the book again, I came up on a statement that I need help interpreting;

Page 228, Oath Taking : "In addition to the listed Codex Squad Mode abilities, the Kill-team will also have access to their leader's Chapter Squad Mode abilities."

Because of the wording of this section, there are two ways I have of interpreting this. Either;

1) Only the Chapter Squad Mode abilities of the Squad Leader are available to be activated during the mission, or

2) All Chapter Squad Mode abilities are available for activation, but if the Squad Leader activates his, then all members of the Squad can benefit from it even if they are not part of the same Chapter.

The second question I have is in regard to the Black Templar's Holy Vengeance Chapter Attack Pattern on Page 222. It says whenever a they make a "successful Standard Attack with a melee weapon (whether or not Damage is inflicted) they may immediately make an additional Standard Attack with the same weapon, against the same foe as a Free Action." Does this work if the attack is Parried? I know it falls under the Damage not inflicted part of the statement, but if the attack is Parried does it still count as successful?

Thanks in advance.

Check out the errata available at FFG's Deathwatch site (it's under Support). The team does not gain access to the leader's Chapter abilities, only the Codex Abilities allowed by the Oath they take (along with their own Chapter's Abilities, of course).

Yes, I'd say you could make another attack as long as you pass your test whether the enemy parries or not. Holy Vengeance is very powerful, but it's a good way for non-Assault Marine Black Templars to gain multiple melee attacks.

if being squad leader just gave your chapter abilites to your squad then the tactical marine special rule that allows you to do so with a command test would be severly under powered. theirs also a disctinction in the rites of battle you can take that gives nearly the same ability.
