MIU upgrade for weapons?

By GMort., in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Is there an upgrade anywhere that allows you to fit a Mind Impulse Unit connector into your weapons to allow them to be operated via MIU?

I have a Techmarine character and I think it would be entirely reasonable that he'd 'plug-in' to his Signature Wargear but I can't find a way of doing it within the rules system. Our GM is fairly flexible about upgrades and equipment from other systems but I can't find anything appropriate in Dark Heresy or Rogue Trader either.

Any ideas anybody?

If you have an Exceptional to better MIU that assumption is that you can plug it into all Astartes weapon (and I assume the better mortal weapons). They all got a port somewhere, I guess.

My group has always assumed that any high quality weapon is compatible with an MIU, but looking at the description perhaps the bonus is intended only for vehicle/flyer/voidship/mounted/fixed weapons? Certainly the MIU was in the DH core long before vehicles, but it still sees weird that a user interface improves handgun accuracy particularly. I have always interpreted the balack carapace as giving Space Marines a sort of "instinctive" feel for their armor. They can "feel" how damaged it is, where it is, they simply think about what they want it to do, what they want the auto senses to show them, or how injured they are and the armor responds. Perhaps an miu works similarly? Rather than a ginat floating crosshair they simply "know" where their gun is pointed, where is will hit, what the falloff in trajectory is for projectiles, how the wind will affect it, etc. All those calculations are computed nigh-instantly and the data is subliminally flashed into the brain through the port?

As Togath said, I don't think it would improve hand-weaponry accuracy that much. Nor do I personally believe most bolters etc. have MIU linkups specifically.

Now, I would allow a techmarine to modify his sig wargeer to have an MIU link port and work with his MIU. I'd probly have it as an elite advance for about 100-300 xp. If I were to give him a bonus to accuracy it wouldn't be more than +5. But I would prefer togive other bonuses. Such as, a half action aim becomes a free action and a full action aim is half action if the weapon has a telescope sight attached. A character running would not impose a -20 to BS if the weapon has a motion predicter (unless it does that already). But I'd be careful to not let these bonuses get carried away.

Something cool the player can feel good about having an MIU but nothing overpowering that would break the game.

It's one of the things that makes the Techmarine better though: an exceptional MIU costs 23 Req and requires a Distinguished renown. For that they get +10 to hit, something that other classes don't get - and which frankly isn't overpowered because Marines don't have trouble hitting anyway.

I like it. And really I can't imagine which techmarine wouldn't want to interface with his bolter.

Thanks for the input. I'll have a chat with my GM and see if we can come up with something we're both happy with.

Thanks again, everyone.
