Who desides which figure hit in mixed squad

By San, in Tide of Iron

Hi. dear friends!

In rules there is an example:

Example: An already weakened squad with 2 regular infantry figures and 1 officer figure is the target of a normal attack and receives 2 hits. The owner of the squad must now take 2 casualties (remove 2 figures). The player chooses to destroy the 2 regular infantry, leaving the officer.

Can somebody answer, WHICH player choses, the attacking one or the owner of the squad?

Thanks.

And yet another question: is the any mechanics for making damage to the attacking unit directly during his attacking phase, smth like "counterattack" or "bakfire"?

Thanks again.

Rulebook, pg 28:

" Normal Attacks Against Squads
When a squad sustains hits from a normal attack, the owner of
the squad must take casualties
, that is, destroy an equal number
of figures from the squad. A destroyed figure is removed from
the squad and placed back in the box. When the last figure is
removed from a squad, the squad base is likewise removed from
the game and placed back in the box. Note that even though the
mortar crew and the machine gun crew have two base pegs, they
are considered only one figure."

Well, thanks a lot. That example isn't absolutely clear in meaning of my question: "the owner" takes casualities, but which exactly - decides "the player". Why not to write "the owner" in both cases?..

the rules basicly mean that the owner must remove the numbers of figures = to the number of hits from their squads

If a German squad attacks(normal) an American squad and inflicts 2 damage, the AMERICAN player removes 2 figures of his/her choice from the damaged squad. I hope that clears it up.
