Watch Captain and the Command Skill?

By steelshark, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Hi everyone,

I've just had a look at the Watch Captain Advanced Speciality. Why does he have Command/+10/+20 in his Advancement Table when Command +20 is required to take the Speciality? It even costs half of the normal XP-Costs (200 instead of 400). Is it just bad teasing... "look how many XP you could have saved! :P "?

There are a lot of redundant advances scattered through the various tables like Medicae for the Rank 1 Apothecary or Dodge in the General Space Marine table. It may be an error, or it may be intentional and come into play later down the line as we get more releases.

But the relation is not like with the "General Space Marine Advances" which gives XP Costs for Dodge (for example). I can see the reason here, as there may be Marines that start without Dodge (or other skills for that matter). But in the case of the Watch Captain it is a "requirement", which means you can't access the Advancement Table before you fulfill all requirement... therefore it simply doesn't make sense, doesn't it?

On the surface, none of the others make sense, either. Why should Apothecaries have Medicae as an Advance when they all start with it? Unless something comes along later that says to use those tables, like if we later get some new Specialty or Chapter that has access to the Watch Captain table or could move into the WC Specialty without certain requirements.

At the moment, it all seems kinda sloppy. We'll just have to wait and see if things make sense down the line or if we'll just have to keep skipping over redundant entries.

Hey, perhaps the marine is attacked by a xenos psyker or suffers an accident and gets partially mind-wiped.

Good thing you have all the skills you've already learned in your advance table, otherwise you'd be up poop creek without a paddle.
