Suggestions for our next adventure (spoilers)

By UniversalHead, in WFRP Gamemasters

Hi folks. Next session we should be wrapping up Horror at Hugeldal, after completing An Eye for an Eye and The Gathering Storm. Aschaffenberg has pretty much become the PCs' patron, and I was going to bring them back to Ubersreik for The Edge of Night, but after reading it through I've gone off the whole idea. The adventure requires a lot of preparation and a lot of winging it, neither of which I like doing these days, the masquerade is very freeform, and the whole thing ends with yet another 'skaven in the sewers' thing which I'm definitely sure my PCS have had enough of in past adventures.

So, any ideas about where to go next? I suppose we could play The Witch's Song next, if I can come up with some reason to get the all the way up to near Marienburg. Any other ideas? Thanks!

MAJOR SPOILERS!

I'd still run EoN as an interlude. Skip the "fishing for invitation" part and just give them Aschaffenberg's invitation. Exchange the skaven with the survivors of Unblinking Eye and you got a nice ending for the events around Ubersreik.

OR you could just run the ball without the mutations stuff. Run it as an one-nighter and aim to these things:

- Characters hear rumors of coming storm and/or trouble in the Nordland.

- Characters get recruited by some noble (von Holzenauer or just come up with anything - Aschaffenberg could require the characters to escort his nephew etc.) who wants them to escort him to Marienburg as he/she is afraid of river bandits and/or beastmen.

> When the characters arrive to Marienburg they learn about Fauligmere (Witch's Song) and hear stressing rumors about Norscan marauders.

> Exchange the ending of Witch's Song from dark elves to marauders (either leave out the elven envoy or replace her with Kislevite one who is actually a spy from Norsca).

This way you end up using Edge of Night, Witch's Song and if the characters are still kicking you can move to Crimson Rain from Omens of War (as you have been hinting of Norscan invasion).

Sir, there are some excellent ideas there, thankyou! Running the ball without all the complicated preamble (the PCs are pretty much under Aschaffenberg's patronage now, anyway) and replacing the skaven with the Unblinking Eye cultists is brilliant. The PCs pretty much wiped out the Unblinking Eye at Aschaffenberg's manor, but this is a good time to bring the stronger 'Ubersreik cell' into the campaign - the cultists at the manor could have just been the country cousins of the the main cult. I might be able to weave in some of the stuff from Winds of Change, since that's all about Tzeentch cultists.

Your ideas for bringing in Crimson Rain are good too. I kind of liked using Dark Elves in The Witch's Song since the PCs have never encountered them before, but then perhaps I can add some Dark Elves to the marauder raiding party to link those together. One of the PCs is from Kislev so it's a good way to bring in his back story too.

Thanks! Reinspired now!

SPOLIERS

If anyone's interested, I decided to swap the Skaven for the Dr Festus and his Nurgle cult mentioned in Horror at Hugeldal. That way the events at Hugeldal can be seen as a 'trial run' for Dr Festus, whose main plan is to infect the masquerade ball with Green Pox! Perfect!

That's what I'm talking about. The FFG adventures are quite good if you have the time to consider who to mix and alter them. Running them straight from the box would be out of the question for me. I'm interested to hear how things will turn out!

Appreciate the ideas, Doc. Your session reports are also incredibly useful for my preparation, keep 'em coming! They're greatly appreciated.
