Forbidden Lore: Deathwatch?

By Terraneaux, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

As per the Errata for the Return to Duty deed, it grants 'Forbidden Lore: Deathwatch +10.' But where do you get Forbbidden Lore: Deathwatch as trained to begin with?

Does no one actually know?

Deathwatch knowledge falls under the Skill "Common Lore: Deathwatch" which all characters start with according to the section titled "Deathwatch Hypno-Conditioning" on page 36 of the core rulebook.

I don't recall the errata offhand, but my guess is that the errata should say "Common Lore: Deathwatch +10" instead of "Forbidden Lore: Deathwatch +10."

See, that's what I thought, too, but that's what the errata says. Errata needs fixin' - o boy.

Any subject can be a lore or a forbidden lore, the examples in the book for either are just that. There is an entire galaxy of information out there.

Forbidden Lore:Deathwatch would be stuff like - Conspiracies/secrets with in the orginization.

Lore: Deathwatch would be stuff like- famous battles, locations of kill-teams/logistics ect.

When you have access to a Lore/Forbiiden Lore: Any you can pick up a new trained one. .

'Return to Duty' was errataed to have 'Forbidden Lore: Deathwatch +10' instead of just 'Forbidden Lore: Deathwatch' when I don't think 'Forbidden Lore: Deathwatch' is mentioned anywhere else in the rules.

Frankly, I'm not a fan of how knowledge is handled in the system. It seems strange to me that Common Lore is an advanced skill; shouldn't it be, well, common? Also, it seems weird to have to take two or even three different skills just to gain full knowledge in a single area. In a combat-heavy game, that just discourages players from taking a lot of skills because it reduces their effectiveness. Why should a player spend several hundred XP on the Common Lore: Deathwatch advances from the main book if the GM is going to be using a lot of Forbidden Lore rolls instead? By the RAW, it just doesn't work as well as it should. I generally hand-wave that sort of technicality and allow the skills to be used anyway, so a starting character with only CL: Deathwatch can still have a shot at knowing about a long-lost, quarantined watch station, for example.

Nimon covered that... When you take the Forbidden Lore:Any advance you choose a Forbidden Lore, so you could choose Forbidden Lore:Deathwatch. Unless my understanding of the Lore advances are completely wrong, I'm not sure where your confusion is stemming from.
