Dornish Chariot and stealth

By Ivengar, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Just need to clear something up.

I have a character with stealth and the other player has one with the chariot. I am attacking him.

Before blockers are asigned I choose who I want to stealth by and pick the guy with the chariot. Now since the chariot guy can not participate he can not strip away my stealth...

Is this right?

The character with the Chariot only affects things when it is participating in a challenge. If it cannot be declared as a defender because it has been bypassed with Stealth, it cannot participate. If it cannot participate, the Chariot cannot affect anything.

The Chariot on the defending side of a challenge is useless for stopping attackers with Steatlh. By the time the defenders are declared and the character with the Chariot is therefore making the attackers lose Stealth, it is too late. Stealth has been assigned already and anyway, you cannot go backwards and declare more defenders. Still nice on a defender to wipe out Deadly and Renown, though.

The Chariot's ability to remove Stealth on opponent's characters is primarily useful when attacking - because by removing Stealth from the defender's characters, more of them will be eligible to be bypassed by an attacker's Stealth.

Yes. But keep in mind that even if you picked a different stealth target and the character with Dornish Chariot attached was declared a defender, your characters losing stealth is irrelevant at that point because you have already assigned your stealth targets. So the stealth part of Dornish Chariot is only interesting when the character attacks.

Edit: ktom beat me to it :)

Thank you both.

That is what I thought too and how we played it but the other player thought it would be silly to have stealth on there when it could not be used for defence where as I argued that it was there for when attacking.

Again thanks for the swift reply!

Please quote the relevant card text.

Now, if we all got into the habit of quoting card text when asking card specific questions, we would also have realised that it is also useless on the attack as it cancels out the stealth of all your other characters as well, so they can't use stealth either (and since the character with the chariot was bypassed by stealth, I assume it doesn't have stealth itself).
