Progenoid this, Progenoid that... where are the rules?

By isidro, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Hello all,

Having been an avid Bushido ( old old school RPG ) fan I love the idea of karma, and that's what I saw on the progenoid glands of a marine. Calendar issues apart, I love the idea of not starting a new character if yours dies, I love the idea of a progenoid gland beeing saved and "used" to allow the new character from an old player to be an experienced/talented marine.

Are there rules for this? Official or otherwise ?

I'd love this also because you can make things thought, you can hit below the belt over and over again. It brings out bravery, risk taking or cowardice to the center of the action and that's interesting!

Thx all,

Isidro

It's kind of represented. A player whose character has died, but whose geneseed was successfully harvested receives an additional +5 on a statistic, and an additional Fate Point for their new character, and additionally gets the XP and Renown from the mission that their prior character died on.

Oops, was looking for that in the DW book yesterday and tottaly missed it...

mmm, I'd increase it to make for roughly the same XP/Renown... say 80% of the guy with less XP/Renown. Nothing worse than a player beeing afraid of losing their character. Not to be confused with liking the character and fighting for it, just the survival issues that go into conflict with the rest of the game time.

Isidro

New characters already come in at the same Rank as old ones, with another +200xp/rank bonus if they died heroically, on top of any bonus from geneseed harvest.

Ah, valley of the mists is magnificent. But I also like Sengoku RPG.

The book itself is an awesome resource. The system...meh... it's ok, I guess.

Orite, I think.

@Siranui: system is secondary. I like different systems even if "sub-par" for the sake of variety. It always comes down to the GM straightening out where a system goes wrong.

Alex

Don't get me wrong: The book is a stellar resource for L5R/Bushido/whatever, but I paid little attention to the system itself. Which is just as well, because there isn't much of it, buried in amongst all that awesome historical background material.
