Determing Population sizes on Warhammer Maps

By simpatikool, in WFRP Gamemasters

Hey Guys,

Is there any sort of legend out there when it comes to reading Warhammer maps? How can I tell what the population sizes are for various towns/villages or cities, or do we just have license to determine this kind of stuff?

In building my little campaign up in Nordland, I am trying to get a gut feeling of the sizes of towns like Salzenmund/Middenheim or other population centers.

Thanks.

You ALWAYS have license to determine this kind of stuff. This is your game, and what you do with it is up to you, not GW or FFG.

That said, I believe that populations for various towns and cities is listed in the 2nd edition supplement Sigmar's Heirs .

Yup, Sigmar's Heirs gives a detailed listing of populations of towns and villages of the provinces of Empire (not beyond it).

Which maps? cool.gif There are many different maps, done by various artists. Also population numbers are different in WFRP1 and WFRP2 & WFRP3... But as mentioned - Sigmar's Heirs is best book for this. Here is some locations from there:

Nordland:

  • Salzenmund (pop: 7500)
  • Dietershafen (pop: 3000)
  • Neue Emskrank (pop: 895)
  • Norden(pop: 3200)
  • Wilhelmskoog (pop: 84)

Middenland:

  • Middenheim (pop: 95000 + all the villages near)
  • Carroburg (pop: 8000)
  • Delberz (pop: 4500)

Thanks guys. I just ordered the Sigmar's Heirs as suggested. I sort of do my own adventures, but I like to use information as provided to sort of ground me so to speak. My adventure and story take place in Nordland and the Middle Mts/Forest Laurelon. I generally get ideas by pouring over maps. They make me ask questions like "What is there? What would that place be like? " The first questions that always come to mind is exactly how many people live in this town? What about the countryside etc.

Thanks.
