Where to go from the Gathering Storm?

By UniversalHead, in WFRP Gamemasters

Hi folks - we're about to play our last session of The Gathering Storm and I'm a little stumped at where to go next. The Edge of Night, on first reading, comes across as a little vague and there seems to be quite a lot of work involved in getting it ready for play.

Any thoughts at where to go after TGS? Any experience at seguing into other adventures from that campaign?

SPOILERS

I'm finishing up TGS this evening. I'm not a big fan of how EoN is structured, but I am using the masquerade ball and skaven bit. Since my group played through Eye For An Eye, I am having them summoned by Rickard Aschaffenberg in Ubersreik. Apparently, a certain painting they handed over to "top men" has been stolen. When they investigate the theft they will find possible evidence of skaven involvement. Rickard becomes paranoid and asks the party to accompany him to the masquerade ball; he doesn't trust the other families and thinks it possible that one of them stole the painting to further their political agendas. It could work without the skaven too, but I like them. :)

Im' running next:

* Karls& Scents

* With a little help from my friends

* I may try to resurrect Forges of Nuln one last time

We've suddenly go tturnover of 2 players in my group so you never know what the new recruits will want to play. If someone braves a magic or priest class I'll do one of the shorties from the libers.

Nice ideas Count Zero. I wonder if running Horror of Hugeldal next - but setting it in Ubersreik and then seguing into the masquerade - might work?

Suggest taking a look at Horror at Hugeldal from Signs of Faith. Very cool, short adventure that the party can encounter on their way back from Stromdorf. Plus, it creates cool leads in Ubersreik with the Temple Of Shallya, the mysterious "F", strange deliveries and a great way to introduce disease.

I also like how the strigany were treated. I put together a side story of racial injustice as well.

It would allow time to get ready for larger sessions.

Don't give up on EoN. Its great stuff to really dive into Ubersreik's politics and set up a few small adventures based on vying for the attention of the nobility.

Thanks, I've decided to go with HaH in the leadup to EoN. If nothing else, I love seeing the players freak out when anything to do with disease comes up in gameplay - swords and axes are no defence against it! :)

I'm tying together all the various adventures published for 3rd ed together into a political campaign of intrigue and maneuvering.

It might not be your cup of tea but there's a lot of extra milage to get out of the region and Ubersreik especially if you're willing to put in the extra hours.

There's a lot of ideas floating around on these forums that should save you a lot of time as well.

This is the thread that sparked my imagination:

I never had this much fun prepping a campaign.

EDIT: Oh and thanks for your community work Universalhead!

Looks interesting, I'll definitely give that a read.

I'm a big fan of Obsidian Portal to run my games. Currently I have two groups running through Ubersreik as a setting. If you're interested check out Swords, Souls and Sorrows, on www.obsidianportal.com. Ubersreik is a great city to run a campaign through. Big enough that it has all the wrappings of an Empire city, but small enough that its manageable and the party can really have an impact.

Cheers,

FD

check out valvorik's thread called the young & the restless. it is his treatment of the edge of night.
