"Last survivor" armour history and burning fate

By coves, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

"Last survivor" states that you get a free fate point at the start of each mission (which you lose again at the end of the mission so you don't get +10 fate points after 10 missions if you save them). Can you burn this fate point and still get a new one one the next mission when you have to burn one to stay alive, or am I reading this wrong and do you have to burn one of "your own" fate points? So what I'm asking is: can you in effect die once each mission for free?

Thanks in advance :)

I would say that that fate point is unburnable since it is replaced each day. Burning fate is essentailly the same as "your luck is running out" which doesnt fit with "oh, but it comes back tommarow"

I'd say no to burning that fate point also. It's meant to be renewable after all.

This. Which is logical, because having the right to utterly die for free once/mission is completely broken and breakable.

Worth asking FFG and getting a cast-iron answer?

Did. Will post answer ;)

On a related note, last night I was working my players to make their characters and chapters, and 3 out of 4 of them rolled this exact same Armor History.

OK, here's the answer.

Hi Pierre,

The Fate Point provided by the "Last Survivor" armour history is an extra temporary fate point above your maximum, therefore you cannot burn it to prevent death. Think of it like this: if you have three fate points, you have three "slots" to put fate points in, the extra fate point from "Last Survivor" is one beyond those three slots. When you burn a fate point to avoid death you aren't actually burning the point itself, you are burning one of your slots. Since that extra fate point doesn't have a slot, there is nothing to burn to avoid death.

I hope that helps!

So, as we thought, it's a special point you can't burn. But it feels good to have it confirmed ;)

Excellent!

Odd, being that it's the most broken, if you allow it to be burned! I hope you were watching their dice like a hawk! gran_risa.gif

it's the +/-1 on the chart... the ones on either side aren't as good unless it fits a concept you already had in mind imo
