Adepta Sororitas Boltgun

By Maelflux, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Just a very quick question, as I know there are so many who knows the Warhammer fluff rules by heart.

Is there any noticeable difference on the Adepta Sororitas Boltgun compared to the Adeptus Astartes boltun in terms of damage? I can see that they use a different pattern, according to the Codexes, but am not sure if it just is a minor detail, or a lesser weapon. (and I know they are made for DH, but those rules don't really match the DW rules, before or after the errata it seems)

NB: Reason for asking is because it will be used against my players, and not because I am trying to balance a Sister into the group.

The IHB for DH had a blurb stating that there is a difference in power between "mortal" and "astartes" boltguns. To my knowledge, this is the earliest stated difference between the two, and is not present in most of the books/fluff previous. Generally, it makes sense.

One thing you might want to look at are the new suggested weapon damages in the DW errata. It brings the Astartes bolters closer down to the "mortal" variant.

If you intend to have those boltguns used against marines, then you pretty much will have to employ them in hordes, as base damage will just be too hard to break the armour/toughness of a marine.

I'd say you can use the stats from DH.

It makes sense that the Astartes Bolter is a bit superior to a normal human's, as Astartes are, you know, bigger, badder, tougher, and power-armored. So of course their weapons pack a bit more of a punch.

A Sister of Battle's bolter is human sized, and therefore a bit smaller than a Space Marine's, to my mind.

Personally, I think that regardless of powered armor, the only character able to use Astartes ranged weapons without sufferin the side-effects indicated in the Deathwatch Core Book would be Mechanicus Secutors. Yeah, they are tougher enough as it is, but logic would say that they can make the weapons, and that their Machinator Array puts them on the same size that a Space Marine. And unlike a SM, they can't swim, or do a lot of other stuff.

I would give the sisters better than average mortal bolters though.

I'd tend to represent that with better craftmansship items, though.

Bolters are bolters, they shouldn't be in the hand of anybody anyway. Human-sized bolters are quite the same, but of course the Bolter Bi...Hum, Sisters of Battle get the finest crafted ones.

Sounds cooler. Though maybe a bit weak? Didn't check that out.

The biggest difference between Space Marine weapons and other weapons is the scale. A SM bolter simply uses bigger bullets than other bolters, and somewhere has been mentioned that a normal human can consider a SM bolter pistol as a basic weapon, and the bolter as a heavy weapon... And suffer some penalizations anyway. Recoil is a ***** XD

I believe the SoB's Godwayn-Daez is pretty much the same though.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

In the end I went with using the same stats as for DW marines (with the errata'ed) rules, which made for somewhat dangerous, but fairly squishy opponents, which seemed to work well. I think they would have had a hard time making a dent, if I used any of the lesser stats suggested from the DH books.

Fluff-wise I had a long chat with one of the old-time members in here, that did not really want to contribute to another long discussuion about Sister vs marine gear, but I gratly valued the input I admit :)

PS: Dual-shot seems to be really nasty vs Marines, for the ignore toughness part..
