Revival of the old subject: "Defence at higher ranks", and Omens of War

By Spivo, in WFRP House Rules

I took part in some threads concerning defence at higher ranks, how hitting someone scaled quite well with ranks, but defending against attacks didn't scale very well.

So people came up with (not limited to just this though...): "Opposed attack rolls", ""Bonus" misfortune dice for training in Coordination/Res/WS", "Removal of succes' depending on rank of defender", etc...

So, do people see this as being necesary after Omens?

Bulwark (or is it Bulward?) trait line, for example, seems to be able to deliver some very very hefty defences, and also recharge of used active defences. A well trained Bulwark fighter (with heavy armor) seems to be near impossible to bring down.

Also Twin Weapon style, or Diestro (or a combo) also seems quite good at defending?

They, which I'm thrilled about, made extra ranks in Res/Coordination count for something while defending with certain action cards.

Anyway, my new group are still rank 1 (9 xp), so I'm not gonna introduce the boosted defences, and instead see how well this new stuff works...

But can add the Increased Lethality House rule (allowing excess hammers to increase damage for each train you have in relevant skill).

Would the new enhanced action cards make this rule irrelevant?

No, but they can be used injunction with it for making it even more nasty.

Personally I think Omens' new action cards and help to increase the defensive abilities enough at higher levels. But I personally haven't seen to much of a problem with them in the beginning.

Spivo,

Maybe it's a tad early? I've yet to get my OoW box really. I can't imagine I'm alone?
