Sharing Gear

By Tunnelhckrat, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Ive got a question on signature wargear

We have a revolving gm setup so im not DM ing everysingle game

during one session a brother was awarded a relic shield, he already had a storm shield sig wargear so now on missions he lets someone use it during the mission. I understand letting someone use your gun bc they are out of ammo or something but this sounds very underhanded to me.

Ideas?

The easiest option would be to say the player to hold on until he can buy the next Signature Wargear level, but I'd rule he cannot use both nor share any (a relic or a personal, prized posession? None). A compromise could be allowing him to "reinvest" the Signature Wargear talent, for example into a power sword.

In one way I can see it being allowed since you can pool req, essentially you are sharing gear but, a relic usually has a renown requirement perhaps in forcing that a character must have a required renown to use an item might help make a compromise.

For me, the pooling of requisition is more like the importance of the mission related to the gear they can ask for than sharing gear, and it's provided in a "per character" basis for player's reference (and GM's easy access).

hes not sharing a relic, but signature gear.

A little detail: almost ALL of the equipment used by the Space Marines can be considered a relic of one sort or another. So yes, he wouldn't be shared a Sacred Relic like the ones listed at the end of the corebook and RoB, but he would be sharing a piece of equipment with a history of service to his chapter (and him) that he earned the right to wear.

I think it's like sharing a medal with a friend because you have more...

To me, Signature Wargear is not to be shared. It is specific to the character, and he has earned (for himself and himself only) the right to have it. If he can't (or doesn't want to) use it, then he'll just let it rest in Erioch's armoury.

Signature Wargear (and basic gear, which is just some unnamed Signature Wargear :P ) is the only thing I wouldn't see a PC sharing. Well, and relics, too.

Sharing Req is putting the Deathwatch's ressources in common: it's common sense and good use of the means they have at their disposal. Sharing Signature Wargear is giving away an object that has been issued to them personally. Completely different, IMHO.

Good analogy.

Space Marines don't pass out spare kit to others, because it's not theirs to give. Lacking any material goods; all an Astartes kit is 'on loan'. If they have 'spare' stuff, then the proper place for it is for it to be kept in the Chapter's [or Deathwatch's] shrines, stored in a stasis field and honoured, until someone else is deemed fit to use it.
