Weapon Special Quality "Accurate" in Deathwatch (and Dark Heresy)

By Shirohige, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

I have a little question regarding the Weapon Special Quality "Accurate". You can find this quality in both systems, Deathwatch AND Dark Heresy. In Deathwatch it is obviously much stronger, so I am wondering: If I play a game with characters out of both systems, which Quality do I take? Does one overwrite the other? Or do I just take them as RAW, so there are two different qualities with the same name?

I am asking because those different qualities would make the exitus sniper rifle a little too weak compared with a normal sniper rifle from deathwatch, I think. Because the normal sniper rifle from deathwatch will scale to very high damage values, whereas the exitus sniper rifle is stuck with it's 2d10 forever.

You see my "problem"? What do you guys say to that?

Thanks in advance

Check the DH Errata- the accurate quality in DH is 'fixed' and is what DW is based on- any accurate weapon, in a turn it benefits from the aim action will provide the +1d10 to a max of 2d10 damage per 2 Degress of Success, in addition to providing the +10 to BS (in addition to the +10/+20 you get from actually aiming. So your exitus sniper rifle, in the hands of a Vindicare, tends to do 4d10+2+talents per standard shot (half action aim, fire)

Your question though touches on a more general concept, and in my games I use the rules for the system that I'm basing the game in. So if I'm running a DW game and someone happens to be an Inquisitor from DH/Ascension, I run with DW rules. If I'm running a Kill Marine inside a DH game, I would run with DH rules- though only where there is a rule conflict.

Thank you for clarification and also for you input on the general concept of running two systems together, I appreciate it.

As a reminder, it is not quite ANY weapon which benefits from the Accurate additional damage. Only an Accurate Basic Weapon.

And we are still waiting for a special rule for the heavy weapon sniper rifle. Or has there been any news I missed?

I think you should keep in mind another difference bewtween the systems, depending on the character using such weapons. In DW, they are Space Marines and so the weapon may be bigger or heavier than intended for the same basic archetypal characters in DH - less modified humanoids. Their strength and physiological capabilities may not necessarily be up to task in hefting a DW SR compared to one designed in DH. (note: I have not played DH so have no direct context for accurate comparison - just speculating in a general sense)

Short of that consideration, I appreciate the logic of what Charmander said when having to split the difference or render a ruling for clarification depending on the game being played. Good call.
