Wood elf envoy? (Needing ASAP help for GMing!)

By doc_cthulhu, in WFRP Gamemasters

Do the wood elves of Athel Lorel have envoys (according to fluff)? If yes how do they present themselves? I need to substitute the high elf envoy in Edge of Night with a wood elf so he can be assassinated.

If you need the envoy to be a Wood Elf, then do it. GW won't send the canon police to get you.

Yeah, Wood Elves can be envoys under the RAW. I wouldn't see any reason why they can't be from Athel Loren. Maybe make the guy particularly other-worldly and out of touch to underline the difference between him, and say, a Laurelorn WE.

The Wood Elves (Asrai) are historically extremely isolationist, being bonded with their Old Ones-seeded sentient forest. Their only "outings" being to run their scam, err, handle their affairs in Bretonnia (which might involve "envoys").

However, with Naieth the Prophetess' vision of danger ("a decade ago" in WFRP rulebook; 2512 by the Wood Elf army book) they become more outward looking. Wood Elves leave Athel Loren to fight chaos outside it (particularly beastmen but also goblins, orks, undead as all those have menaced Athel Loren at different times in the past). One (well, this one) assumes that's mostly fighty-fighty type fighting of chaos but perhaps some envoying is required along the way so that the primitive human savages of the Empire go along with things etc. Ultimately, Wood Elves and High Elves agree on just about one thing, the humans make good canon fodder to stand between chaos and real people (elves) thus Wood Elves might realize the need to maintain diplomacy/manage the humans too.

That's my take at least, others' may have more Warhammer-fu.

BTW, you may want to reference the WOOD ELVES warhammer fantasy battles book. This has plenty of details on those French-Speaking athel-loren elves. The laurelorn forest elves of the Empire probably would have a more "loose" relationship, but would likely still have envoys.

Thanks for advices!

As it turned out my players were far too busy to mess with their own heads (and my plans, naturally) to even notice there's an elf presence in Ubersreik. I think I might go with a kithband visiting the High Elf envoy as I need them to be from Athel Loren and as was pointed out they aren't big on socializing.
