Using WHFRP 3rd Edition for Conan / Hyborian Role-Play

By portal3, in WFRP House Rules

I've found the 3rd Edition of the WHFRP game to be the best fantasy ruleset on the market for roleplaying within Robert E. Howard's Hyboria world setting for his famed protagonist, Conan the Barbarian. I'm currently working on what seems to be an easy conversion of Conan RPG (Second Edition) d20 from Mongoose Publishing into the WHFRP 3rd Edition ruleset. The story-oriented rules, the fantasy career system (Conan himself participated in at least 4 WHFRP Career equivalents), the power pool-based magic system, rules for Insanity, Corruption, and Mutation, and the critical hit model of combat all seem very in line with dark fantasy, "sword-n-sorcery" roleplay of any kind. And especially Hyboria.

Has anyone else on this forum tried Conan-type gaming using the WHFRP 3rd Ed. ruleset? How are you finding the match?

I've never really gone out of my way to convert Warhammer to a Conan-esque game mechanically. But I've done several sessions in that kind of setting. Just limiting character choices to what makes sense to me for that kind of game and only using opponents that fit as well. Magic is left to the fringes and games tend to focus around combat and stealth.

Heres a house rulebook I did for D&D .. should be a start:
