The adventures of the Brash Young Fools

By VladdImpaler, in WFRP Gamemasters

So my group decided to try out warhammer fantasy. Well we liked it alot, and have decided to continue with it. I have decided to post the adventures of my group to show how my group tackles the problems and threats of the old world. My group has 3 players, with 2 others that have yet to deccide if they want to join in or not. Character Creation took an hour and a half, and we then played through their first adventure. As the title says, my players chose the brash young fool party sheet. So here we go.

Player Characters so far:

Finneas Dietrich; male human peddler: a traveller and seller of various and mysterious trinkets

Kael Dien; male human agitator: son of a wealthy individual, and has no problem spending the money that isn't his

Aesian Wavestrider; male high elf sword-master: from a seafaring family (jokingly called sea-elves in Ulthuan) an envoy from his family to establish relations with noble human families

Session 1: A day late, a shilling short

Finneas, Kael, and Aesian, having come across each other in their travels, have arrived at the Red Moon Inn in Ubersreik at the behest of Birgitta Tageslicht (a roadwarden). She informs the trio that she is awaiting her partner, Rutger Abend- a fellow roadwarden, on a coach bound from Marienburg and is a full day late. Also the coach has a package that is to be delivered to Vaerun, a high elf envoy of Ulthuan, which he is eagerly awaiting. She hopes the coach is just delayed, but has acquired the services of the trio just in case. The trio decides to waste no time and they head out immediately.

After travelling on the road for three hours, the trio come upon a terrible sight! The coach is halted on the side of the road. Its front axle broken, and the horses dead in their harnesses, impaled by spears. The coach driver lying dead in the road. Savage looking half man-half anmial creatures are ransacking the coach and all its cargo. Also a larger more muscular half man-half animal is attacking the surviving coachman, who is Rutger Abend!

Finneas decides to use folklore to see if he has heard of these creatures before. He recognises that they are beastman, being ungors and a gor respectively. The beastmen spot the trio, but trip over all the cargo that they were ransacking. The battle is on!!! Aesian lets loose an arrow, and burys it deep into an ungor, but does not slay it. Kael decides to loose an arrow at the gor, but burys his arrow into the coach! Finneas decides to help out Aesian and fires his crossbow, but it malfunctions and his bolt flys into the trees. The ungors recover from their tripping. Aesian moves in and cuts down an ungor with speed and finesse the likes that have not been seen. Kael burys an arrow into an ungor, and Finneas finishes it off with his longsword. The trio realize that Rutger Abend doesn't have much longer, and rush to assist him. Aesian rushes severely cuts into the gor, which iis finished off by Kael, and Finneas takes out the remaining ungor.

Rutger Abend heartedly thanks the trio for coming to his aid as he feared he would have been killed shortly. Finneas tends to Rutgers wounds, as he informs the trio that "that blasted merchant just stayed in the coach" as there came under attack. He informs them that they heard a warhorn, then moments later were set upon by the beastmen. Aesian pounds on the coach to get the merchants attention. Aesian gets straight to the point and asks the merchant for the package. Klaus von Rothstein(the merchant), denies that he has a package, and accuses the trio of being nothing but well armed brigands, and are trying to rob him. Aesian feeling that he is being dishonored goes for his sword. Before he can even draw his sword, Kael decides to talk it out with Klaus, by explaining that he would have met a fell end by the beastmen's hands if the trio didn't arrive the save the day. (he also sent some silver schillings Klaus' way to ease nerves!) The trio become aware that a thunderstorm is on the way, and with Kael doing the talking, convinces Klaus to gather up all the most valueable cargo that is salvageable and to head out, so none are caught out in the storm, or on the road at night. As the group leaves they hear a warhorn being sounded.

An hour or so of treking it, the group comes upon a group of Beastmen, this time with a wargor searching the road. Finneas trys to see if he can determine what the beastmen may be looking for, but only recalls that the gor that was killed hav a warhorn on it. The beastmen get a scent, and the battle is on!!!

Aesian charges right away and severely cuts an ungor, but does not slay it. The ungors try to gang up on Aesian, but being undisciplined it is easy for Aesian to dodge their attacks. Finneas fires his crossbow, but again it malfunctions and flys wide off the mark. Kael fires his bow and kills an ungor. Aesian attacks again and inflicts more damage to an ungor, and knocks it from its feet, but doesn't slay it. Finneas seeing an opportunity, runs his longsword through the ungor on the ground. The wargor being furious lets out a terrifying bestial howl. For a moment it seems that it bothers Aesian, and Finneas, but they recover quickly. Kael fires his bow at the wargor, but only scratches him. Aesian, and Finneas finish off the last ungor, which only leaves the wargor left. The wargor charges Aesian, and strikes a blow, but Aesian's training allows him to take less of the impact, and stays on his feet. Finneas thrusts his logsword at the wargor and misses, but also maneuvores himself behind the wargor. Kael fires his bow again, and again only scratches the wargor. Aesian solidly connects, and the wargor is taken aback by how powerful te attack was! The wargor returns the blow in kind, but again Aesian remains on his feet, but looks worse for wear. Finneas and Kael both strike solid blows on the wargor, and the wargor is slain!!!

After the battle, Kael tries to get Klaus to allow someone who can protect the package, should carry it, and that also their pay needs to increase due to "hazard pay". Klaus agrees to increase their pay, but doesn't give up the package, as it is too important!! With that the group treks back to Ubersreik in the thunderstorm, but arrive at last. They all make their way to the Red Moon Inn, and retire for the evening.

The next day, the trio come to the common room to find that Rutger and Birgitta were arguing with Klaus. The trio receive their pay as promised, and that the roadwardens will not forget them for what they have done. Finneas pays a visit to the local hospice of Shallya to tend to grievious wounds. Kael looks around town, and starts to document the temples of Ubersreik. Aesian decides to site see in Ubersreik to get a feel of the town. The trio meet back at the Red Moon Inn, and retire for the evening, feeling good with a job well completed, and seeing what tomorrow will bring!

Alright, so we have played 2 sessions since the 1st one, and things have slowed down because of it being summer. 1 player has joined the group so there are now 4 players.

Kael Dien; male human agitator: son of a wealthy individual, and has no problem spending the money that isn't his

Session 2 & 3: Eye for an Eye

A week passes, for the brash young fools as they reflect on the events of their first job. During this time, Finneas Dietrich decides that he would rather seek his fortune in the safety of a bustling city, and not encounter beastmen ever again. So he bids Kael and Aesian, farewell and leaves the Red Moon Inn. (player switched to the wizard). Feeling restless, Kael and Aesian decide to look for some employment. They come across a job offer, for a house move. It strikes them odd, that the job pays 6 schillings, as this is more on par with a wage for a skilled artisan, then a laborer. They decide to find out more about this offer, and so they head back to the Red Moon Inn, to meet Herr Hendrick.

Two other individuals have also come across the job offer, and have decided to meet Herr Hendrick as well. Vlad has decided to look into the job, as he needs money to improve his tools that he so loves to use. Dietrick sees this as a first hand opportunity to gain some life experience.

So all four of them, arrive at the Red Moon Inn, and are taken to a private snug were Hendricks is waiting. He introduces himself as Vern Hendrick, as is the manservant to Lord Aschaffenburg whom the job offer is about. Hendrick explains that Lord Aschaffenburg has recently taken over a hunting lodge manor and is concerned that a rebellion may be happening among the staff. So the group would be going under the guise of unloading the Lord's coach and furniture, but will be covertly spying on the staff. After Hendrick is convinced that the party can do the job descretely so as to not have any political ramifications ensue, he informs them that they will leave in the morning on the next day. He bids them good day, and leaves the Inn. The party decides to go do alittle shopping, and then retire for the evening.

Bright and early, the party meets Hendrick at the wagon, and are underway. During the ride, Vlad notices that Hendrick has some bandages on his arms and tries to identify what he got injured from, but is unsuccessful. The party notices that Hendrick is getting more and more skittish as they ride on. When asked if he is ok, he states that he hates the forests as they are too noisy. The wagon enters a clearing were the party can see the outer wall of the lodge. Out of nowhere, beastmen attack the wagon. Hendrick yells to the guards on the wall to open the gates, but is refused until all the beastmen are gone. The party maneuvers the wagon close to the gates so there will be some cover fire from the guards on the wall. The beastmen, after testing the defenses, all rush to battle the party. Aesian has no trouble in dispatching the ungor. Dietrick and Kael have a more difficult time, as they gang up on the gor, but are hard pressed since Dietrick just couldn't control his magic for beneficial impact. After seeing the trouble Kael and Dietrick was in Vlad decided to help them, and the three were able to dispatch the gor, but all were bruised and battered. The party had help as the guard were helpful, when a 2nd group of beastmen appeared, but were dispatched quickly. After all the beastmen were dealt with, the gates were opened, and the party and wagon entered the lodge.

As the party is safely inside the gates, they are greeted by the bear of a man that is Lord Aschaffenburg. The greeting is brief as he ushers the party to grab his belongings and to follow him into the manor. The party follows him to his chamber, and once inside he closes the door. Lord Aschaffenburg confirms what Hendrick told them. He feels that something is off with the staff, but can't put his finger on it. He informs the party to be discrete, but lets them know then are allowed into all areas of the manor. He tells them to find outall they can, and they will meet after dinner that evening to discuss what they find.

The party starts by going to the hospice to bandage up some of their wounds. The party meet Dr. Seiger and sister Sonja, and learn that there is a delirium that the staff is suffering from, and that beastmen have attacked the lodge for the past couple of weeks. Vlad helps dr. Seiger and sister Sonja calm down korden kurgansson as he started rambling on and on. Vlad learns that korden has been that way since after a previous beastmen attack. Vlad and dr. seiger start to talk about medicinal matters, and the party splits up at this point. Kael goes to the kitchen to try and acquire some alcohol to help dull the pain of his wounds. He very quickly meets Karla the cook and is unkindly kicked out of the kitchen, but is able to acquire alcohol with the help of a servant. Dietrick chats up Gertie a servant girl, and finds out that, the previous lord of the manor just vanished without a trace. that all the staff worked for the previous lord. that the previous lord was a recluse and spent alot of his time in the library, and was always close with the Gregor the steward. He also catches a glimpse of Gregor with the side of his head and left arm bandaged up. also Gregor runs a strict regiment, and does not put up with laziness. Aesian walks the grounds and finds a hole in the wall of the lodge, and reasons that it is the result of a beastmen attack.

Deitrick decides to go check out the library. He carefully opens the door and spots the librarian. He uses a cantrip to get the librarian to check it out. He then stealthily searches the bookcases for anything unusual. He comes across a book title: A Disquieting Proposal, a book that discusses the worship of the ruinious powers in a slim hope of being their immortal servant. Deitrick takes the book, and leaves the library, and hides the book in the room he is staying in.

The party all decide that they have some good evidence, and the all go to dinner. They are asked if they would like goose or venison for their main course and all but Vlad choose the goose. During the meal, the barking of dogs is heard and Olver Gland goes to see what is up with his hounds. The party enjoys the dinner, but are alittle sickened by seeing the great quantity of food that Lord Ashaffenburg eats. After the meal, Lord Aschaffenburg invites the party to his chambers for a glass of brandy and good conversation. Once behind closed doors, the party informs Lord Aschaffenburg of what they have found. which is, that their is a delirium going around, and that because of being in the forest, and the frequent beastmen attacks that everyone is most likely suffering from fatigue. But that the previous lord was a recluse, and just disappeared one night. Lord Aschaffenburg starts tio fall asleep, and asks the party to see if there may be anything else they may have missed, but if there is nothing else, than maybe it is just nerves of being in the forest. Kael and Vlad decide to go to bed as they feel the job is done. Aesian decides to go and take a look at the defenses of the lodge. He walks the grounds and checks the hole in the wall, and sees nothing unusual, he comes upon albrecht krug and hans kurtz in heated debate as hans believes that his blunderbuss has been stolen. Aesian defuses the situation, by saying that he will look for the blunderbuss, and that hans should get some sleep. deitrick meanwhile goes back to his room to read the book he found. During the reading of the book, he feels a presence scratching at the back of his head, and decides to stop reading the book for the night. So the party all retire for the evening........

The party is awakened by the blood curling scream of a woman. They all grab their weapons and look out the windows, and see that the beastmen are attacking and are inside the walls. The party rushes out side and engages with the beastmen. Olver gland and his hounds are out fighting the beastmen as well. Aesian goes and dispatches the beastmen that are plundering the forge. Deitrick tries to get to the shrine, were the screaming is coming from, but the beastmen and their ferocity cause him to go no further, and gets them to follow him. a group of ungors makes it into the manor, and Vlad decides to stop them as best he can. after several minutes of battleing the beastmen, there is a crimson light that comes from the roof of the manor, and rises straight up, as Morrslieb is high in the sky. Deitrick rushes inside the manor and finds the way to the room. there he finds a nightmare, as a deamon has manifested on the roof!! Deitrick unleashes a spelll at the deamon, which does some slight damage to the deamon, the deamon responds by tearing into the wizard with brutality. at this time Vlad has dispatched the ungors in the manor, and joins deitrick on the roof. He attakcs the deamon but, is too tired to be effective. deitrick tries to cast a spell at the deamon and fails, and also becomes possessed as a miscast occurred. Aesian has arrived on the roof, and the deamon tears into him as well. Next round Deitrick feels that the deamon wants him to finish off Vlad as he is on his last leg, but refuses and attacks the deamon to no avail. The deamon enraged at the wizard, tears the wizard in two as he unleashes his rage upon him. Aesian battles the deamon for a few more rounds, and barely manages to dispatch the deamon frrom this world. At the deamons death, the staff members on the room let out screams of anguish and throw themselves off the roof. The party regroups and locks all doors and windows of the manor, and sleep by the main entrances to the manor...

and so ends session3

Session 4: A Dark Web

There is a grim atmosphere that hangs over the hunting lodge as dawn breaks into the new day. friends both new and longtime, have died brutally at the hands of the beastmen. also some were members of a chaos cult willingly!!! The day starts with the burning of the heretic and beastmen bodies. Afterwards, there is a ceremony to honor those that came to defend the lodge in its time of need. Lord Aschaffenburg declares that he will not rest until he has made sure that this cult has be destroyed for good! Lord Aschaffenburg also thanks Aesian, Kael, and Vlad for all they have done, and that they may call upon him for aid in the future. Vlad seeing as there is no doctor in the lodge, decides to stay and care for all the survivors at the lodge(character change). Lord Aschaffenburg accepts Vlad's proposal. Lord Aschaffenburg, then arranges for a coach to take Aesian and Kael back to Ubersreik, so that Lord Aschaffenburg can start his investigation.

Aesian and Kael arrive in Ubersreik, late into the evening, and a dense fog has settled over the city. As they make their way to the Red Moon Inn, a group of 5 robed figures come into view. they are all wearing off white robes stained with blood. and their leader has a child's body over his shoulder. The group tells Aesian and Kael to move along and not to interfere with Morr's work!! Kael, sensing that something is wrong, demands to know what they intend to do with the child. The robed figures all draw daggers and advance upon Aesian and Kael.

Meanwhile, 3 other individuals are out and about this night in Ubersreik. Shadowleaf, having just arrived to Ubersreik from Athel Loren. Cerebus, having come to a smaller city than Altdorf, and hopefully one with fewer politics. and Konrad Falkenheim, having come to see how the common man lives in the area. These 3 come upon a scene, of 5 robed figures attacking a high elf, and a human. So the threee decide to help the high elf and human.

The combat is short and sweet. The robed figures are quickly dispatched, as they were very much outclassed. after the battle introductions are made, and the tending of the child is underway. As this is happening, a group of 4 men come uopn the scene. The leader introduces himself as Braedon, captain of Lady Nicola Baranti's house guard. He informs the party, the they are aware that these robed figures were out tonight, and are trying to stop them. He informs then that they found information detaling 4 locations these figures are going to hit, and that two are left. He asks if the party can help. After a few nods, the party agrees to help. Braedon tells the party to go to the location on Tern Street, and He will take the one on Dogget Lane. He also informs the party, that if they don't meet later tonight, then to come to the Baranti manor house tomorrow, as there is a reward in it for helping to dispatch the robed figures. The party wastes no time and rushes to Tern Street.

Upon arriving all seems calm and normal, until a few screams come from the house. Cerebus is the first into the house, and sees that there are 2 robed figures ready to fight, and that there are more in a back room. wasting no time, he rushes past the two and into the back room. Here he sees, that there are 2 adults dead on the floor with their throats cut, and that 3 robed figures are advancing on a teenage girl cowering in the corner with fear. Shadowleaf rushes and puts himself between the girl and the robed figures. Aesian makes quick work of the 2 figures that the others rushed past. Konrad decides to throw some fire at the remaining robed figures, but he has a hard time controlling the wind of magic, and ends up setting the ceiling on fire. Kael sees the fire and starts yelling, for the neighbors to get the bucket brigrade. Cerebus engages the robed figuresand finds that they are easily dispatched. Shadowleaf seeing the fire becoming more intense, scoops up Tessa (the girl) and jumps through the window to get her to safety. The robed figures become desperate and attack recklessly, and proceeding to catch on fire. They then try to run past Cerebus, who ends up slamming the figure in to the wall and causeing the ceiling to collapse. With quick thinking Cerebus pulls Aesian out of the room as the ceiling collapses. The party all make it out of the burning house with minor wounds, and Kael decides to take charge of the bucket brigade, to make sure the fire does not spread to any nearby houses. Thus gaining the approval of the lower class. (player had to leave early).

Tessa informs Shadowleaf, that those robed men were talking about taking her to their mistress at the end of cooper lane. Shadowleaf informs the party of this news and they decide to go there. Tessa does not want Shadowleaf to go, and wants to stay by his side. With some reassurance, and a promise to return, Shadowleaf takes Tessa to the hospice of Shallya, and asks her to wait for him there. The party then heads towards cooper lane.

The party arrives at the 2 story house at the end of Cooper Lane. The party stealthily looks into the windows. They see there are 4 figures armed and alert inside the house. The party attacks. The 4 robed figures are all dispatched in one round of combat!!! The party searches the 1st floor and come upon some parchments detailing the sinking of a riverboat called the Dagger Rose. The party procedes to the 2nd floor. There they see a large room covered in hundreds of mirrors, in the middle is a beautiful woman, admiring her beauty in her reflections. the party also sees that Braedon and his men are laying unconscious on the floor. Upon seeing them the woman asks them were are her children, and to bring them before her. Konrad has had enough and procedes to smash a mirror with his staff. The woman shrieks and combat is underway. Cerebus and Aesian engage her as Konrad and Shadowleaf provide ranged support. The party sees that when a blow would have killed her hits, a mirror breaks instead. the party quickly decide to attack her and the mirrors. As mirrors were broken, they weakened the woman, but also inflicted wounds on the attackers. After many rounds, the party was finally able to dispatch the woman, who iwith her dying breath says "........Morr's will be done."

so ends session 4
