Rant! An expansion for RuneWars is long overdue!

By Tsugo2, in Runewars

If you own Battlemist, like I do, then you know just how long I've been giving them my money. I have a legitimate argument for complaint. As to proof, I thought you were looking for an intellectual proof, not me busting into their offices and stealing notes from meetings. In response to your last paragraph about them treating the customers correctly and being very responsive, I am very much in agreement and never disputed that. Don't take this as a personal attack, this is a complaint against a business.

For example, I've worked in restaurants, now when I see a restaurant raise the price of soda, or charge the same for a wrap as a sandwich on a french roll, I get annoyed. I know how much those things cost, I know they're milking me for more money. In this same example, as a business they decided on making the pieces tied to each faction, unlike in TI where the pieces have a color and that is just seperate of the faction. I don't like the descision to only ahve 4 factions in Terrinoth, I think it's stupid and makes the game more boring.

The game they built in the creation of Runewars is an excellent product, and I enjoy it but it could have been done differently. Failing that, if indeed I have no idea what I'm talking about and they absolutely HAD to make it this way, then where the hell is the expansion. The IP on the heroes is done, they just need to be ported in from Decent. The Tile design is done. Artwork not withstanding, the new molds and plastics are the only real cost on the endeavour. They could bang the project out in good time. Hell, they may just say we aren't allowed to play as six player game, but really adding in 4 new areas isn't that huge a feat for them. Instead, they've created Black Gold, and the Adventurers and a host of other products that ALSO require the same materials that you've talked about and the same type of design teams. Those molds for those games had to be made in the same way that they would for the expansion, and frankly, while I don't think I'll ever buy Black Gold, I may Also not buy the Adventures because now I am actually annoyed, since you made me really think about it, instead of just a thoughtless emotional rant.

Hell, city of thieves was fun, but was sub par compared to other fantasy flight games, as was mansion of madness, maybe I should just vote with my dollars until things change. Oh wait, if I don't write these posts, they ll never know what I don't like, so nothing will ever get fixed. Stupid slippery slopes.

Sigmarzero13, you seem to me like the kind of gamer I'd like to play with, being an old timer and able to hold a rational conversation, but seriously, don't get on my case for ranting. It only leads to a downward spiral where eventually I set my gaming collection on fire.

I got Battlemist LOOOONG after it was out of print, through a trade. I've played it a handful of times, because while fun, compared to more recent games, it just falls flat :) For me, part of that it's the plainness of the components; cardboard counters really don't do it for me in a game as thematic as this one. I'm glad Runewars didn't skimp out by making generic figures for the units; it gives the various races more variety in how they play than the Battlelore factions had (where the only differences were minor, and mostly related to combat effectiveness).

I don't think your rant is unjustified at all. I just disagree with the conclusion - I don't think FFG is milking the customers by withholding stuff from an expansion at all. I think anything that WAS left out (if indeed there was; there's no indication that there were ever plans for more than 4 factions for this game), it was only because making more factions would increase prices, and the game's MSRP was already steep enough.

Perhaps we won't agree. And again, it wasn't meant to say "stop ranting", because you are certainly free to do so :) Just because I don't agree with your assessment doesn't mean you're wrong. :)

i'd be thrilled to see some kind of expansion that increased the number of players to 6, personally.
as far as the game is concerned, i love it, and my gaming group does too, but it's a 4 man game tops, and my gaming group averages 6 members on a given night.

my internet distributor usually runs out of a new ffg game, especially if its promoted with vidoes and advertising like runewars. but runewars never sold out,. so probably it is not sold good enough to make an expansion quickly.
