Using other campaign settings with Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

By NathanielG1, in WFRP Gamemasters

I have just recently switched from hosting D&D 4E games to hosting Warhammer games. I really prefer the core mechanics of Warhammer to D&D. I still like some of the campaign setttings (and detail maps that go with them) for D&D, and am thinking about using the Forgotten Realms campaign setting with the Warhammer core mechanics for some of the adventures that I am planning to write. Has anyone else tried this/what did you do/how did it work out?

I've often thought about running D&D campaigns using alternative systems, and I think the new Wahammer system could work, but to date I just haven't made the effort to write conversion rules. So all I can give you now is a small dose of encouragement, good luck! Let us know how it goes.

I can't see why this wouldn't work. But remember that npc's like Elminister doesn't fit within the rules, being immortal means being; deamon, elf, slaanh, or undead.

All in all, D&D campaigns has a tendensy to be heroic, and in warhammer you're extremely unlikely to ever fight dragons and such.

But anything goes :)

I think Warhammer 3rd works for low magic campaigns (so I can indeed see it working for middle earth).

For example, when I first got game, I translated a D&D elf bow ranger and human fighter into warharmmer terms keeping "the feel" and adding Warhammer juice without a problem.

Where it can be a problem is arcane magic and moreso divine magic. The division of spells and blessings into thematic schools fitting the warhammer universe reflects warhammer cannon. So the "other campaign" needs to either downplay magic or accept it in the "flavours" warhammer gives.
