Force weapons

By damoose79, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

I've done some searching, but couldn't find anything. I am playing our groups first librarian, and used the psy focus in melee. As an opposed I had 2 extra successes, and my target had 7 extra failures. At that point we went with 9d10 for the psyhic damage. Later as we discussed it, it seemed kind of crazy to do that much damage. We got to wondering if what we did was correct or not. Is there a max to die number (i.e. PR), or can it be a limitless die pool as long as you pass your check?

Degrees of Failure aren't counted on Opposed Tests - only count Degrees of Success in such situations. So, in the case mentioned above, the Librarian would have dealt an extra 2d10 damage.

Yup. For comparison; think about hitting a brick wall. The brick wall gets no WP test, so you'd just add successes to damage. Given that, it doesn't really make sense that rolling an awful WP test when hit by the force weapon means you take more damage than when a brick wall gets hit!

Thanks to you both for helping us out. Truly, much appreciated.

I saw it as failing their check left their mind more open to the influences of the psychic attack. In that way those that were weaker willed could not resist as well. Still, getting that many dice seemed kinda wrong.
