Most efficient heavy weaponry, for the occasion?

By Martellus2, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

I am new to DW and currently uses a n Exceptional Quality Heavy Bolter (Master Signature Wargear), which seems to work allround and be useful in most circumstances. Actually I usually take the role of a 'semi-Devastator', since we don't have any in our group and my background as a gunship gunner is quite useful.

Which other HEAVY weapons do you prefer and why?

Plasma?

Flamer?

Melta?

Las?

Did I forgot something?

Anti Personel:
- Heavy Bolter
- Assault Cannon
- Missile Launcher (Frag)
- Heavy Flamer (Great at close range, very sucky at range over 30 meters, totally useles against vehicles)

Anti Armour:
- Las Cannon (Useless against Hordes)
- Melta Cannon (Almost useless against Hordes)
- Plasma Cannon (Good when fighting fast/small vehicles, marginally useful against Hordes)
- Missile Launcher (Krak) (Very Balanced Weapon, use different missiles for different targets)

So if you have one Devastator in the group I would advise him to carry the Missile Launcher with different missiles for the occasion, it is the most versitile weapon.
The main disadvantage of this weapon is the low ammo carrying capacity it you use an "Ammo Count" system.

Though the Heavy Bolter with Kraken Rounds in the hands of a Devastator Marine is more than able to damage any vehicles with 30 to 35 Armour Points on average or slightly above average rolls.

I love heavy flamers for hordes or enclosed areas.

Missile launchers are great for open areas where you need to be versatile.

Las cannons are great against armour or single targets.

Assault cannons, because I like 'em.

Anti horde: Heavy bolter, Missile Launcher

Anti everything else: Conflageration Mulit-Melta

Just the conclusions I would draw, possibly adding the Heavy Flamer for some specific situations against large bioforms (with low Ag) in closed areas or on the open battlefield where the 30 m 30 degree arc can be used to a maximum.

I'd suggest the Autocannon, but you'd have to port in some DH stats and adjust slightly for the Astartes version.

Deathwatch Autocannons (Dreadnaught) and DH Autocannons have the same stat bar

Clip, Rld, Wt, Req, Renown?

Autocannon Heavy 300m, S/2/5, 4d10+5 I, Pen 4, Clip 20, Rld 2Full Weight 55kg
Renown: - (Though you would be at -10 Fel with other Marines since mostly Traitor Legion use Autocannons)
Requisition: 12 (Scarce)

Wt should be higher for an Astartes version to follow the pattern set with other weapons, and the Fel penalty is an odd houserule considering that similarly "old" Mk5 "Heretic" Armour (also used mostly by Traitor Legions) actually grants a bonus to interactions with other Marines.

I'd agree with the weight, to something closer to 70 or 80kg I'd think, but only if you're astartes-a-sizing it, which would suggest some kind of an increase in damage over the DH one...though they didn't with plasma and melta...and TBH 4d10+5 should be plenty.

Maybe more req, but I'd have to crunch more numbers. The HB is 25 or somethign close, and does 2d10+10 pen 6, so this has the potential to do 15 more damage at 2 less pen with a slightly higher ROF chance. Is the autocannon compatible with the ammo backpack?

The backpack states that it can hold 250 rounds of SP ammo. As the AC is SP I would guess that yes it is and gets 250 shots.
About the req: Will the AC then be an astartes weapon? If yes I would say it's ok, to charge more req. But why not just requisition a guard AC for 9 - 14, like RAW?

And to be exact: It has the potential to do 2 less damage with 2 less pen, too.
