Unnatural Abilities

By qcipher, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Quick question.

You get a -10 to the difficulty per level of Unnatural Ability above 1 you have (max -30).

You get an extra degree of success on competing rolls against someone per level of Unnatural Ability (Unnatrual Str gives +2 degrees of success) and you win ties if the other person doesn't have Unnatural.

My question is, on competing rolls, do you also get the reduction of Difficulty or just the bonus success if you succeed?

I personally rule that you get either/or but not both- for individual rolls you get a difficulty reduction. For opposed rolls you get bonus degrees of success. To do otherwise would be multiplicative in the reduction in difficulty (reducing the difficulty already will net you a greater chance of scoring multiple DoSs), which doesn't feel right to me.

That was my thinking exactly, but I wanted to be sure.

i would agree
