How does Fear work in Deathwatch?

By Mr Clean, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Hey all,

As I read the Deathwatch book, and ran the first mission, we came upon the rule for fear because the squad was fighting a Hive Tyrant. A Hive Tyrant has a fear level of 4. Anyway, the book goes through the whole process for fear and its effects in squad mode and solo mode. The team was in Solo mode. After the book goes through all of this, it states that most fear rolls would only effect their allies, and not the Marines. It says that most Astartes do not feel fear in the same way as everyone else. So, do I make my players role for fear and consult the fear and shock tables, or just forgo fear rules because they are space marines? Also, if they do not feel fear and do not roll on the table, why have the Primarch curse's?

Thanks

They suffer a negative to WP, equal to -10 per rank of fear, if they fail the test. Marines do not suffer the shock table.

There are other sources of insanity, which eventually add up for primarch's curse.

So is it a running tally that effects them?

Thanks for posting Pete

No, its just during the effect of fear, basically, while the enemy with fear rating is still alive and in the area.

Theres a mechancic for squad mode, but it appears you have that down.

Insantiy Points are a running total that eventually causes battle fatigue / primarch's curse.
