Forge Master and other Techmarine stuff

By Bonedust, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

I've been looking at the Forge Master specialisation as a possible "career path" for my Techmarine and I've got a few questions:

1) You gain a servo-harness as wargear, but do you also get the tallent to use it? If not why would you get something that you can't use...

2) You gain a power axe. Is this an Astartes Power Axe or Omnissian Axe (Astartes-Pattern)?

3) If it was an Astartes Power Axe you got. Can you then use Signature wargear talent to upgrade that the Power Axe in to an Omnissian Axe for 10 req?

4) It is listed that you can buy the talent "The Flesh is Weak 4" if you have the talent "The Flesh is Weak 3". If you pick Forge Master as Rank 4 you won't have had acces to "The Flesh is Weak 3" as you first get it as Rank 5. Should this be downgraded so that you can pick "The Flesh is Weak 3" as Forge Master/Techmarine Rank 4?

I know that this have been discrussed other places but I didn't get any definitiv answer.

*The big drom roll*

Cybernetics:

It is listed what cypernetics do as Common and Exceptional. I would like to know what they do as Master-Crafted. There are rules for Master-Crafted Weapons and Armors but why are there none for cybernetics?

Craftsmanskip
Common:
A high quality, rugged replacement that is functionally equivalent to the replace body part.
Exceptional: An advanced system that not only replaces the lost body part, but also possesses additional utility.
Master-Crafted: The cybernetic has been crafted by master artisans. It is exceptionally functional and striking in design.

I saw that someone posted that you could just use the Signature Wargear (Master) table 4-2 to generate the " exceptionally functional ". Is a good idea but I would like some more general for the cybernetics.
Ex. a Techmarine can have up to 9 or so implants: so you could get +9 Cohesion? or +18 Initiative "Sorry Mr. Eldar I have 2 turns before its you". Don't get me wrong here I like the idea but I would like something more konkrete. Such as Master-Crafted Bio Arm has the bonuses as the Exceptional version plus it also gets X, Y or Z (Where X, Y and Z should be replaces by some special ability). And this would be the norm for all Master-Crafted Bio Arms. You get a little freedom to pick the special ability but that is all you get.

One special ability could be for the bionic heart that every time you get a Righteous Fury you may test on your toughness to see if you regain a wound. This effect could be limited to one time per turn. So that as a Devastator can't get 11 wounds back in 1 turn.

These are my thoughts right now any positive criticism is welcome.

First of all I really like techmarines, being so **** tough is sweet.

I think the power axe is just an astartes one, since it just says power axe. if I was GM i'd say it could be an omnissian axe as that makes sense to me.

You can buy the the servo harness integration talent at rank 4, if you didnt get it I guess you can only use your servo harness once you do.

I havent seen anything explaining what a master crafted bionic does either, maybe you could give it one of the traits from signature wargear master table.

The flesh is weak 4 is available to get at rank 5. You can buy fiw 3 and 4 then, instead of having to wait till rank 7 to get fiw 4

My vote says the Om power axe, as I think it's what is meant for the Tech marine to have at such a high level.

As for master crafting? It's striking in design. It becomes a fashion accessory.

+20 to picking up sisters of battle. gran_risa.gif

I guess you could buy the "servo harness integration talent" but why wouldn't it be intergrated in the XP cost to become a Forge Master? As I stated before I find it odd that you get a servo harness that you can't use.

So you would say that at Rank 5 you could just buy the"Flesh is Weak 3" and the "Flesh is Weak 4" talents? I would rather see it distributed more even.

erhm... didn't you forget " It is exceptionally functional "? The Battle brothers are above the needs of mere humans/mortals. But I do find it hard to explain why the Techmarine has a tube from his crotch on the pic in DW core rulebook. I would have poset a pic but I can't seam to be able to upload it.

No, I didn't have anything to add, but didnt have anything to explain why it's not there. So I took the easy route with attempted humor.

I love humor.. I guess you didn't look at the picture of the Techmarine in the Core Rulebook. You should do that. lengua.gif

Now to get back on track -> Forge Master and other Techmarine stuff

1) No, the player would have to pay the extra xp on the base Techmarine advance table to use it.

2) It's a base Power Axe.

3) No, because it's much more than JUST a Power Axe when it becomes an Omnissian Axe.

4) The reason "The Flesh is Weak 4" is on that list is so that when you reach Rank 5 you can get #3 then get #4 without having to wait another couple of levels.

1) It still feels a bit odd that you get gear you can't use... preocupado.gif

3) Well an Astates Power Axe has a req on 20 and an Omnissian Axe has a req on 30. So you are saying that you can't use your Signature Wargear to upgrade your wargear?

4) I would have liked it to be more even like in the base Techmarine so that you don't get take the same talent twise.

1) Odds are that a Marine, by the time he gets to Forge Master, he has bought the talent to get a servo harness. In fact, the requirement rank for Forge Master is the same rank at which servo-harness integration becomes available.

2) An Omnissian axe is not a mere power axe. No amount of req will morph said axe into an Omnissian axe. And it's still a 'free' power weapon.

3) Yes, you can use the Forge Master specialty to skip a level or two of requirements for TFIW4.
