Anyone have any thoughts on allowing a character to train the same action or talent more than once?

Whats's the point about this. Either you can do a certain action or not. The same with talents.
Maybe I don't understand your question really. But I won't allow it.
Buying the same talent twice, allows you to slot it in party slot, AND have it on your own char(s). Thus gaining the bonus twice.
For actions (and rechargable talents) it means you'd have an action with very low recharge (half in effect).
I would not allow it, because the whole point of the recharge system, is that you have to purchase different actions/talents, and not just rely on one.
A player would purchase double strike enough times, to only need that, for example. Or purchase Improved dodge/Parry/Block, and get 3 extra purples each round for defence. And while we could use more defences, I don't think this is a good solution.
Hi,
I agree with Spivo. One of the things i like most about 3rd ed is the variety of activities in combat with the action/recharge mechanic. 1st and 2nd editions inevitably resulted in combat focussed characters cycling through their multiple attacks, dodge roll, parry roll and repeat each round. If you go the route of buying copies of actions then your headed the same route. It would also probably open up some ridiculous munchkiny options on wardancers and swordmasters.
I don't see a problem if you want to allow it in your game. It makes for an interesting option and can create really specialized players. A Truly defensive fighter for example. The downside is you'll potentially end up with characters doing the same thing round to round and that can be boring. But if everyone PC's and NPC's have that option then so be it. Just don't let your players grumble with the Beastmen does his stress inducing roar every round.
Nope, would not allow it. Now I only have one set of each card, but even if I went out and bought the Players Vault I would not allow it with the simple explanation that they allready know it and that it's boring.
I can see simulationist justifications but overall it feels wrong in game. Variety is spice of life and the fight is sequence of different moves more than the same move over and over, at the first least a few other moves in between the same one.

If you want quicker recharge, take talents and actions that let you modify your recharge. Or spend your fortune points instead of sitting on them.

somewhere on the forum, you've got an official response from designer to a email question from a member. They say you can, technically speaking, but that's no really the spirit of game. So, it's up to the PCs and GM finally.
But, they already know how to do it.
For example, I can't learn how to drive twice, so therefore I couldn't get two 'drive' action cards - I either do it, or I do not.
This is purely a way to get round the recharge rates on cards, and as someone above posted, go for talents/actions that reduce that instead of doubling up on knowledge (which doesn't work for me).
