So RoB now defines some Solo Modes as being 'passive', and hence active at all times, even when in Squad Mode. If this is the case I can't see why you'd ever leave Squad Mode. Any drawbacks to that?
Rites of Battle Solo Mode Q
Nope.
But Marines might be forced to drop out due to restrictions on command range/radius or whatever it's called.
It's a bit cheap, but if you're wanting to save cohesion then the squad might break to solo mode in order to prevent the team from loosing cohesion due to fear/damage. I can see this happening if cohesion gets low but the party want to save a few points for near the end of the scenario.

Which solo modes specifically?
Ultramarines and Space Wolves. Plus mental fortress and extreme endurance.

Remember that, while those Solo Mode abilities can be used in Squad Mode, there are several other abilities that only apply in Solo Mode but which aren't "Solo Mode Abilities", such as a Tactical Marine's Bolter Mastery.
Also note that, sometimes, you can't help it - spending Cohesion, and Cohesion Damage can result in a squad being forced to leave Squad Mode.
I don't think you're ever forced to leave Squad Mode. You might not benefit from a Squad Mode Ability, or that ability may cease to be in effect, but the actual state of being in Squad Mode is not dependent on having Squad Mode Abilities up. It just means you're eligible to benefit from them.

If you hit 0 Cohesion, the entire squad leaves Squad Mode, and nobody can attempt to re-enter Squad Mode if they have 0 Cohesion. If you're rendered unconscious, you leave Squad Mode. If you're out of Support Range of your squad, you leave Squad Mode.

Well, that answers that!
