Techmarine Traits and Specialty Deeds

By Brother Praetus, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

So, I've been casually perusing my copy of Rites of Battle and came across something I believe to be a typo in the Specialty Deeds .

Omnissiah's Call ; page 85

  • Specialty: Techmarine
  • Cost: 500 XP
  • Talents: Electro-Graft Use*
  • Bionics: Gain one Common-craftsmanship bionic implant of choice

Techmarines already gain the Electro-Graft Use talent; along with Mechadendrite Use (Servo-Arm), as part of their Blessed by the Omnissiah trait as detailed on page 89 of the Deathwatch core book. So, for 500xp (half of your starting amount) you really only get an additional Common-craftsmanship bionic out of things... Where as with the Price of Victory deed you get two Best-craftsmanship bionics for free; barring the choices of Augur Array, MIU, Servo-Arm or Servo-Harness .

So, I shall be submitting this to the |Rules Questions| link for some official word on the matter. I will apprise people of the answer once I receive it.

I don't know because I don't have the book, but someone else I think mentioned 'price of victory' costing a permanent fate point. If so, that's a very steep price to pay!

Well, yeah, there is that. Given I lucked out on my Space Wolf Iron-Priest with the max of 5 for starting Fate Points, I am more than content to lose one for a couple more implants. More in character with the concept and all...

As to the official word from Ross, he had this to say:

Hello there!
The correct talent should be Talented (Tech-Use), not Electo-graft Use.

I pretty much copy pasted my original points into the rule question, along with an actual question at the end of it. I would like to thank Ross, Sam and Mack, for their enthusiasm and willingness to field our questions about this wonderful game system they helped to create.
