Brainstorming the Gathering Storm, and other enquiries.

By MRoxs, in WFRP Gamemasters

After recieving fantastic help the last time I made a thread, I have decided to bother you lot once again.

My group is slowly headed towards the climax of the Gathering storm -- the chase, but along the way they have forgotten the pendant that Mourn possessed and Maria Holtz has escaped judgement so I have been trying to come up with a way to incorporate Lazarus Mourn into the last act, or both him and Maria.

Waltrout's body wasn't found in the Garden of Morr, so that's obviously the first new body of Lazarus Mourn but perhaps Maria in her madness made a pact with Mourn (if they stumbled on each other).

Do you guys have any idea how I can incorporate Mourn without losing much of the finale? They have to feel the consequences of forgetting important items that I did stress that he was wearing it. And the Wizard even guessed that it was part of his power.

Secondly, a question related to the Old World.

Trying to be as politically correct as I can here. Are there 'black' people in the Old World, and can they have important positions in the cult of Sigmar? e.g Witchhunter.

With regards to the second part the old world is a fantasy world and more the point for the sake of your games it is your fantasy world. So it can have any race/sex or any other attribute you want in any position you want.

My take on racism in fantasy worlds is that they are good places to explore the concept (and to point out how ridiculous such notions are) but keep it between actual races. So dwarves and elves have a racial hatred and nobody likes the Dark Elves but I would steer clear of of any ism that is applicable to the real world.

The Empire, and many of the western human realms of the Old World is loosely based on the culture of 16th/17th century Europe, and so humans with darker skin from other lands would be regarded by these people as being more exotic as high elves! I'd prefer to see them as an object of curiosity and perhaps fear rather than hatred (for example, there's no slave trade carrying on in the Warhammer world, unlike among the European colonies of this 'period').

The Southlands is a barely known continent thousands of miles south-east of the Empire, only reachable by ship, or across dangerous land routes. It's populated by savage orcs, and lizardmen, but you could easily say that human tribes exist there, who equate to the African tribesmen of our world. They need not be wild aboriginal people either - you could have a civilisation in the deep jungles based on the immensely wealthy and civilised Mali Empire of the 16th century, or even base a civilisation on the mysterious builders of Great Zimbabwe (look these up on Wikipedia if you don't know about them already).

The Southlands is completely untouched, as far as the current Warhammer mythos is concerned, so you can do with it as you like. And Southlanders can be as wild or as sophisticated as historical African nations from our world.

A Southlands PC could easily have come over on a Marienburg trading vessel. Perhaps he is a trader himself, or sent by his king as an ambassador to the great Emperor Karl-Franz? Or he could simply be an adventurer exploring the world. Or a buccaneer bereft of a ship and forced to wander.

Other human races in the Warhammer world include the Ind (of whom nothing has been written - I guess they're based on Indians), the Arabyans (flying carpets anyone?), Cathayans (Chinese) and Nipponese (Japanese). There are amazons living in Lustria (a white-skinned female race - how and why I can't remember), as well as a race of dark-skinned pygmies.

Again, very little to no background on these races, so feel free to make up what you want. It's my guess they'll never be written about in the official Warhammer mythos, so it's up to you to fill in the gaps!

Thanks for the replies. I am not very interested in going the racism route in Warhammer Fantasy and I was solely asking about the possibilities cause I want to introduce a 'black' witchhunter.

Any ideas on adding Mourn to the final chapter?
