Power Fists and Arm Mounted Weapons

By WillisRBC, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

I have a character that wants to go the Marneus Calgar approach and use two power fists. I don't have a problem with that, though we discussed not being able to use a ranged weapon. A power fist doesn't disallow the use of the arm mount, does it?

No, but it would disallow or at least heavily penalise using the hand for other items, such as doorhandles, vehicle controls, changing those fiddly magazines in those arm-mounted weapons...

I think it's up to GM option on the arm mount and power fist, but it does seem to be in the realm of relic weapons.

The grenade launcher, if memory serves, lists a shoulder mount option.

Remember the penalty to manipulating anything with a power fist.

I think its perfectly allowable.
The range is already cut by a third...

Yes perfectly allowable as arm-mount doesn't necessarily mean wrist-mounted anyway. It could also mean shoulder-mounted.

The wrist mounted weapon upgrade specifies that a shoulder mount is and statistically identical, and applies to the same range of weapons. I would disallow normal power fists with wrist mounted weapons on them, because the only instance I can think of is a relic weapon. Under normal circumstances, I can't help but think the power field would interfere with the function (if not the molecular cohesion) of anything attached to the fist.

I wouldnt mind if my players try to recreate a light version of Gauntlets of Ultramar, after all that combination is not terribly effective anyway, with arm mounts gutting range and reloading becomes a pain with two powerfists. I think i would even let a character with trade armourer introduce belt feeds into the design, idecntical to Calgar model. Could even evolve the whole thing into a mission to gather components and materials, so the Watch fortresses forge can produce those.

I suppose you could get around the reloading problem with a backpack ammo supply. Like the Talon of Horus. Lightning claw with an integral belt-fed storm bolter.

Tee-hee.

They used to have grenade launchers on powerfists for Terminator Captains, especially in the fluff from 1st Ed Space Hulk. These aren't relics though. Dont forget that the bolters of the Gauntlets arent shrunk down regualr bolters, but better than normal ones. So I'd see no problem with mounting them.

I wouldn't say that such items are relic weapons because remember that only pistol class weapons (and only certain ones at that) can be used with the wrist mount. So having a bolt pistol would not be so horrible on a wrist mount with power fists. Heck even a inferno pistols isn't really that big cause it cuts the range for that weapon to the point where he would probibly be charging and swinging in melee anyways.

I'd go for Relic. After all any Ultramarine around whould be quite pissed seen they Chapter Icon been dismissed as simply "combi" weapon.

As for arm mounter we let pistol OR basic weapon used on armmount. IF it's in the TT it can be done as we say.

I play an Assault marine with a pair of Lighting claws and have a wrist mounted Axially Grenade Launcher as the weapons you can mount are very limited. I find that any wrist mounted range weapon is very limited for me becuse most of the time I am charging into combat before I get to use my range weapon.

Load Stalker rounds to kill people before they can sound off an alarm.

Shooting the ridiculously over-powered melee creature from a safe distance, allowing it to charge *you*, then getting all your attacks instead of just one?

Lol, don't remind me of the charging rules please.
