Question on Signature Wargear?

By DrewVolker, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

Hey there, I have a few questions about the Signature wargear (Normal, Master and Hero) talents.

Can they "Stack"? The normal one gives you an item worth up to 20 requisition to your standard equipment. The Master one gives you an item worth up to 40. And the Hero one gives you an item up to 60.

My question is, if someone took the normal and master one, could they combine them to get one item worth up to 60?

I'm curious about this mainly cause i'm gonna play an assault marine and I want to get a pair of lightning claws added to my standard equipment (a pair costs 45, so the master talent wouldnt cover the pair, So I'm asking if I add the normal one and the master one could I use the 60 points to get a pair of lightning claws + upgrades, equaling 60).

Thanks in advance.

Sig Wargear (Master) is an upgrade to Sig Warger (takes your 1 item worth 20 points and turns it into 1 item worth 40 points w/a bonus), you can later get Sig Wargear again (giving you one item worth 20), and then Sig Wargear Hero (for 1 piece worth 70). Sadly, they don't stack, though I've been debating allowing Sig Wargear Master to stack with the rank 5 Sig Wargear because our space wolf wants lightning claws and there's no way to get them without using Sig Wargear (Master) AND (Hero). It seems like they mean for you to have to use req for lightning claws as a pair.

Ahh yes, I seemed to have missed that part.

Well, would you think it would be balenced to let someone stack the second Sinature wargear with the master one.

So it would be 60 points?

Truthfully, you can get any item with GM approval. So if the GM wants to tweak it that way, or if you are the GM and want to do it that way I would say go for it, but allow that other players will might want that option also.

Buy one lightning claw for 30 with SW(Master) and later upgrade to exceptional double claw with SW(Hero) for 68. I think for this purpose double claw should count as one item.

I'm of the opinion that SW(Hero) is little bit wasted on a pair of claws. Perhaps if they were master-crafted, but they're not.

How about getting one claw with SW(master), taking the +10 ws bonus, and just requisitioning another claw for 15-30 (depending on GM's ruling). The off-hand claw won't be your main weapon, so the lack of +WS won't be as noticable there. I'd assume that's a fairly good compromise, and you can still use SW(hero) for an artificer armour or something to that extent.

Just a thought, when the topic came up in our DW game, the GM agreed that the 20/40/60 Req was not satisfactory to what the players wanted to get out of their characters.

We house ruled Signature Wargear to give an additional 5 Req per tier, essentially give the players 25/50/75 Req at the various levels to help customize the characters to their liking. As always, check with your GM and so long as you're not being unreasonable, or trying to break the game, I find them to be most helpful.

I would like to have a question, about wargear.

In the ROB book there is a must have wargear for all Space Wolves: the Fenris Pattern The Wolf Helm.
The only problem I have with it is it does not have a req rating (the same stands for scout armour). I understand why they left out the req rating for the skull helm as it is uniqe for chaplains, but miss it for the Wolf helm.
I think it was left out, because it is not for single missions, only a "permanent purchase" is allowed through Signature wargear. But which one? The rank 1 Signature wargear talent is enough or a "higher one" is needed?
Thanks in advance!

We had this come up as well during a rank 4 one shot. I ruled you can trade in your chain sword and bolt pistol(AS marine asking) for the points it was worth and take two lighting claws as one item, since he wasn't going to use ether.

I assume if the item has not a requisition cost, then it's limited to the appropiate class/chapter, for free in exchange of the starndar counterpart. The Explorer armour doesn't cost requisition (from my point of view), because you are taking it in exchange of your Power Armour, which is left "safely away" (or even in the Erioch Station).

As for the lightning claw thing, I faced the same problem and, looking into the Signature Wargear, I think first, that the system favours heavily ranged weapons (there is no upgrade for melee ones, save for the craftmanship), and second that FFG intended for us to be short on it and "waste" some. The perfect example is the Signature Wargear (armor), 70 points for an Artesanal Armor that costs 60, and either a Vox-Cast (10), Teleport Homer (10), or a dataslate/cartograph (5) + pict recorder/Stummer (5).

Frankly, the best you can do is: excellent Crafted Lightning claw with Signature Wargear (Master) for a 45 points cost, deduced with the removal of the chain sword to a "mere" 40, and buy, each mission, a second normal claw for 15 requisition, and some arm-mounted weapon (since, you know, the lightning claws are not the best choice when you need to pull a trigger) for those long-range engagements or even overwatch/suppressing fire.

Oh, and my advice would be to buy a MIU implant for the marine, then apply the same upgrade to the Jet-Pack for a +10 in Pilot (personal). Just in case.
