hey every one new to rpgs

By codybhowell, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

like the title says im pretty new to rpgs and im having trouble understanding how to play the game. i know how to do things just not with the stories, how to create a story and setting it up to allow characters to use there skills and talents.

Also few of my friends are going to start playing on the weekends

myself am going to be blood angel assult marine they've always been my favorite in the miniatures game

my friend is going to be black templar we just dont know what the best class is for them or to begin with.

my other friend is going to be a space wolf librarian which i needed to know if a psy spell says d10 x pr does that mean you roll a d10 and times it by your psy rating.

First things first, you need a Game Master, it is best if he does not run a character like all other players but rather take care of the story and acting out all the Non player characters. Perhaps as a starting point your group should try out the three free available missions, so the GM has less to prepare, the three are: Extraction (available in the core rulebook), Final Sanction and Oblivions Edge ( both available as a free download from the FFG site). In addition your GM should consider getting his hands on the Game Master Booklet, it contains yet another mission and some nice mission creation tips for beginning GMs.

Alright thank you . i do have the dark hereasy book and game masters booklet would this help any.

There are plenty of usefull tips in the DH books as well, but the missions there are not really geare towards Astartes, so you should rather stick with Extraction from the DW book, and Final Sanction, Oblivions Edge.

As for your questions Black Templars are close combat oriented, but perform quite well as Tactical Marines, as their Chapter Advancements make them into light version of Chaplains and thus require high Fellowship scores.

d10xPsi Rating means roll as many d10s as the Psi rating, so 3d10 for Psi 3 for instance.

Read the Rulebook, get an understanding of the rules. If there is any doubt about how it basically works, ask here.

Once you got a basic grasp of the concept, listen to a podcast like this one here:

You need to understand the rules a bit to know what dice they are rolling and why. These people play Dark Heresy very loosely and not strictly according to all the rules (they make one or two minor errors too but that's beside the point) but it should give you an impression of what actual play can be like.
