Need help on my campaign :)

By Spivo, in WFRP Gamemasters

I'm toying with a campaign, with itz and bitz stolen from various threads etc...

The main plot was surposed to revolve around Nurgle, but then I saw this thread: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=165&efcid=3&efidt=429327

And then agreed to myself that Tzeentch were be the mastermind behind the plot... because afterall, everyone (including the other gods) are pawns of him gran_risa.gif

Okay... the theme of the group is the brothers returning home to their fathers funeral, after being seperated for several years.

Main plot (ripped from above thread...) is that a Chaos Sorcerer is making Bretonnian gold coins with either lead or warpstone cores (don't give me a lecture on wether it can be done or not...). He wants to destabilize the relations between Bretonnia and Empire, and in turn reap the benefits from him owning a large merchant house in Marienburg (hoping Witch' Song takes the campaign near there...).

He's got a corrupt dwarf to help him mine the warpstone, and supply gold/lead, near Hugendal (can't remember correct name...). Using an associate (who's not a cultist), he's using Jungfreund family to spread the coins through Ubersreik. Jungfreunds has no clue of the warpstone, but wants to destabilize Ubersreik, so he can march in to save the day...

Okay... down the road, my problem lies in getting the players to Ubersreik (fairly easy), grab EfaE plot (harder), and finally start investigating the main plot (can save for later).

I have their father involved in the whole thing, since he's acted as courier for the warpstone (not knowing what he transported). So thought they would be faced with a closed coffin... and when pushing to see their father, they'd see his leg was made of blue pudding. Asking around, they'd discover their father acted as courier for someone in Ubersreik...

Okay... in Ubersreik... part of the plot was that Jungfreund would send the gold into Ubersreik, by buying assets (through strawmen) in Ubersreik, and sell them again (with a loss)... yeah... cheesy... and one asset would be Grunewald cottage.

Anyway, I'm certain my players will try hard to find out who used their father as courier in Ubersreik, so why would they take the job from Lord Aschaffenberg???

In Grunewald, I'll have clues to the main plot, so after that I should be home free happy.gif

Interesting idea, I like how you're tying things together.

As far as giving them a hook for EfaE, give them some clues that the character's father made some deliveries to a patron at Grunwald Lodge. Mention that Aschaffenburg has recently acquired the lodge and is looking for some valets. Point them to Hendrick, as it would give them a chance to go to the Lodge and investigate while also making some money.

Then, you reveal the clues and paint the cult at Grunwald as minions of your Chaos Sorcerer, tying it together.

Weird... I never thought about tying it to Grunewald that way. Good idea, the players will think the Lord is the culprint, I'll even have him conduct some nightly business, making him more suspect gui%C3%B1o.gif

I made a flowchart with all the ties and knots so far... I have so little time after work, that doing it at work is best, and a flowchart looks very innocent gran_risa.gif

Hi,

Hey Spivo, glad to see you enjoyed the concept, and yes completely agree Tzeencth is a born mastermind. Hope you have just as much fun as I am running it! Dont forget to terrorise the players carrying tainted gold with minor corruption tests. Its the first time I've seen a party of money grabbing players find some gold, look at each other, and disown responsibility for it, "Well I'm not taking it. Your the wizard, you take it!" gui%C3%B1o.gif

Nice idea Darrett, taking it a little further.. perhaps their father was a regular at the Bridge House in Ubersreik and a couple of his old freinds are staying there for a few days between jobs? Just maybe they remember he was passing through a year ago transporting this big valuable painting to some Von Bruner bigwig up at the old Grunwald Hunting Lodge? Oh hang on didnt that Von Bruner chap mysteriously disappear? Well, these nobs are a little odd...

Hope that helps

Have fun

Good good happy.gif

I'm making the gold Bretonnian, this will become important when they discover Jungfreund has told all his employees to not accept Bretonnian gold...

My next task now will be to link the Nurgle plot ("Is there a doctor in the house?" demonio.gif ).

When I'm all done I'll post the flowchart.

This may not fit with what you're planning, but obviously the players want to know what killed their father (nice idea by the way, having them be reunited family). If he died from an 'accident' (doesn't mean he can't also be mutated), and the players investigate, they could find out that he'd recently stopped working as a courier.

Obviously the players assume that his previous master didn't like this and arranged his accident. The players can believe this long enough to investigate the employer and find enough dirt on him to realise that something fishy is going on, before they find out that their father really did quit and have an accident shortly afterwards. His reason for quitting could be something unrelated to the main plot, but set you up with options later. eg. perhaps he fell in love with a married woman and they planned to flee somewhere new together.

It doesn't matter if the players don't have time to follow this up now, but if you ever need to introduce plot 'out of the blue', you can have it relate to their father's lover (or whatever) - the new thread that they don't know anything about.

Hot-diggydy-****!! There's some **** fine material here! I'm gonna be stealing a lot of this. @ Spivo, sorry about not replying, I've been tied up with tons of stuff.

About fitting in Nurgle, maybe the nurgle guys got wind of the tainted gold, and that they just want their bloated little hands on it, simply to hoard warpstone (they could be using it for their own neferious plans). Maybe they start a secret war with the Tzeentch cult, that might confuse the PC's and scare the crap out of them when they figure out that they are messing with, not one, BUT TWO cults of the Ruinous Powers.

Just a thought :-)

Think I've tied the last loose ends together so far...

Something about a pregnant woman, a disease, and a doctor who kindly offers his assistance. Of course all this happened many years ago, about 1-3 months before the groups mother (they're brothers...) died while giving childbirth... Many secrets will be uncovered happy.gif

Bottom line being, that I'm a firm believer of the "rule of 3", so 3 main plots. Tzeentch, their mother (and Herr Doctor), and finally either a Waarg or something else. Not yet decided what the third part is. Will likely wait for Witches or Slaneesh for that.

Could though still use help. So in the case you'd like to meet and run through... I'd of course love to give feedback on your campaign as well happy.gif

The good thing about another set of eyes, being that you as a GM have some things set in your mind, but this often gets wrecked by the players doing something out of the ordinary (like when my TEW campaign went down the drain when a player offered the other players as sacrifice to the deamon, if it would spare his life...).
