Hapless comedy in Hugeldal, SPOILERS from Horror at Hugeldal

By No.12, in WFRP Gamemasters

Hi,

Ok so you'll probably only appreciate this if you've read/run the Horror at Hugeldal adventure but I thought it was funny enough to share.

Backround: One of the PC's, Dexter O'Seiky, is the only son of Hans O'Seiky owner of the Circus O'Seiky. Dexter is planning on following his father and running the business. Hans also wants this and is grooming him for the managing role (player took Burgher career), and sent Dexter to do a small tour of the mining communities near Ubersreik. The larger plot also has leads there so the other players going purely for plot reasons. Oh and the circus recently got its strongman assassinated by the party's grey wizards apprentice, hired by a couple of the dancing girls after a sexual assualt on one of them. The guy playing Dexter still hasn't realised it was the grey wiz despite numerous clues, and the guys playing the wizard and bounty hunter chr's are totally deadpan and helping give him advice on how to hunt down the killer.

So on to Hugeldal, they get the rumour of the Famine Feind, ignore the other clues completely and head off to the stone circle. Dexter takes a couple of the cart horses to help put the standing stones back up. They get to the farm and nearby stone circle, and move in to correct the desecration, except the bounty hunter who's late after a lunch date with the towns engineer and not that keen on it at all. I'm playing the Famine Feind as a sort of fallen Exalted Champ of Nurgle, less weapon skill but a little spellcraft, who possesses the gift of a large cloud of foul fog that accompanies him at all times. So the players notice this fog surrounding the standing stones and creeping closer, just as they have hitched the horses to a rock. Grey wizard says "sod this" shadowcloaks and legs it back to the road and the just arrived bounty hunter. The thug char and Dexter decide to calmly walk out. Predictably the fog contains both a magical curse of foul whispers, disease and corruption, and the remaining lost souls of the preists failed quest, now insane and fallen into nurgles service. I really emphasised how scary and dangerous wandering blindly through this fog is, and sure enough Dexter and the thug ended up fleeing too. By now Dexter has picked up two disease cards.

So then Dexter realises he's left both his horses in the standing stone circle... Face in hands embarrassment. Unanimously the wiz apprentice, thug and especially the bounty hunter tell him forget it they are dead diseased or both. But our Dexter wouldnt listen. Cant go back and tell dad he's killed two horses can he. So the thug decides he cant let him go in alone and walks back into the fog too. Couple o rounds later the wiz apprentice gets all consience ridden and goes in too. Bounty hunter screaming at them "fools! I dont believe it. fools!" tearing her hair out, flatly refuses to go in. The three who go in find one diseased horse, one half eaten horse, and a chaos champ who soundly thrashes them, crits and disease all round and disappears back into the mist which then recedes back into the surrounding woodland. Seriously, I couldnt have made it clearer going back into the fog was bad move.

They return to Hugeldal and cash the dodgey Dr up nicely for some healing, all suspicions conveniently postponed. Dexter is quarantined outside the town by the bounty hunter, who in char is now completely scornful of the hapless Dexter. The next morning the Cavalcade arrive and start setting up thier show, including a strongman. Dexter thinks his lucks finally turned, arranges a meeting with the owner, a (ahem) "merchant" by the name of Gul Proll, and agrees to hire his troupe as sub contracted performers for an upcoming series of shows in Ubersreik!

In short if the grey wiz apprentice doesnt find out whats going on with the cavalcade soon (the bounty hunter and thug are both more concerned with seduction and blackmailing the locals), our Dexter will return to Ubersreik riddled with disease, down two horses and smuggling half a dozen cultists, four daemons and a chaos sorceror inside the city gates. Then his dads really going to hit the roof! gran_risa.gif

Hope you enjoyed

Have fun

Haha! Classic! It sounds like Dexter is being the real heroic sort ... which doesn't usually bode well for longevity in WFRP, which is very gritty and dangerous. gran_risa.gif

Awesome!

I hope you have more stories like this to post. For me, this is exactly what WFRP is supposed to be about.

Hi,

Dexter would indeed have you believe he is the heroic sort, thats certainly what he says to all the pretty barmaids at least. However when it gets nasty he'd prefer to leave fighting the cultists to the fighty types, well... any types really that dont invole him. His only combat purchases are Improved Block and Improved Guarded Position, which truly reflects his combat technique- hiding behind his shield and chainmail occasionally waving his sword ineffectively while asking why someone isnt sorting all this out!

But by Sigmar when combat is done he's the first one back to the inn telling the ladies an "artistic" version of the parties heroics. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Have fun.
