Creating a campaign based on TGS and EoN

By Gallows, in WFRP Gamemasters

I'm currently creating a big campaign based on The Gathering Storm, The Edge of Night and Horror at Hugeldal. Right now a rough estimate is about 15 sessions of 10 hours each, so it's enough for quite some time. I have the major extra scenarios in place, but still need to rewrite some of them a bit to fit perfectly.

I do however struggle a bit with deciding on the bigger plot. I'll be making some extra hand outs and scenarios to tie it all together to create the persistent plot throughout the campaign.

I'm looking at Dr. Festus as a possible player in all of this, pulling all the strings. The lightning stone from TGS is also something that can tie it all together. The noble families of Übersreich must play a part as well of course.

Has anyone else created a bigger campaign with a persistent plot throughout based on those 3rd ed. scenarios?

Any input is appreciated.

I have have an overarching plot-line I'm using that I can share ... I'm not sure how others will like it, but I'll be happy to share when I have a second to write a longer post ...

SPOILER ALERT

I'm currently in the same work. What we have, considering the adversary's main obedience/theme in each adventure :

  • Eye for An Eye (Corebox) = Tzeentch + Reikland Noble (Von Brauner total fail / Aschaffenberg success)
  • Winds are Changing (WoC) = Tzeentch.
  • Hugeldal (SoF) = Nurgle + Reikland Noble (Von Jungfreud failure / Von Brauner fallen / Aschaffenberg glorious)
  • EoN = Skaven.
  • TGS = Tzeentch + Reikland Noble (Von Jungfreud).

Here are my rough ideas.... Sorry for my english Gallows :

  • Unblinking Eyes Cultists destroyed (Eye for an Eye, Von Bruner ashamed, Aschaffenberg glorious).
  • Surviving cultits join the Feathered Fiend and talk them about Stromdorf's Magic events (Von Jungfreud are in difficulty in Stromdorf).
  • Feathered Fiend destroyed (Winds of Change).
  • Surviving cultists contacted by dokor Festus who propose them to destroy Reikland, speaking of his manipulations in Hugeldal (Sign of Faith). They exchange about the situation in Stromdorf... And the brillant Doktor Festus propose them a plan : impersonnate the Stromdorf's doktor while they manage to seek the source of Magic in the area (think about Harry Potter's Polynectar's potion). Agreement.
  • Lady Aschaffenberg calls for help to secretly inquire in her sister's town, Hugeldal where she rules as a widow of Maxim Von Jungfreud her past husband (Horror At Hugeldal SIgn of Faith, Von Jungfreud). She fears the Von Brauner may lose a LOT of prestige one more time and would prefer the Von Jungfreud to be blame this time so the Von Bruner might know redemption.
  • The Famine Fiend cult (Nurgle / Horror at Hugeldal) is dismissed but Doktor Festus' disciple the sorcerer of Chaos Gull manage to flee in the wood invokating the very powerful curse that the farmer Hans Bauer survived to before hiding in the Temple of Sigmar (and not his family)....
  • Gull, the Doktor Festus' Disciple can't reach his master to Stromdorf. He is trapped in the forest by heroes, towners... There the Skaven from EoN, yet here near of Ubersreik, save him in exchange of his help. A powerful chaotic and true human will help their plan as they are giant rats in a big town full of humans.
  • Edge of Night Adventure where the High Elf Character living in the Old Bauer's House will talk about perturbance in the Elf Force near Stromdorf.
  • And then the TGS adventure to conclude with its Epic End.

Nice stuff there and some good idead, thanks.

I play the scenarios in this order

  1. Horror at Hugeldal
  2. Edge of Night
  3. The gathering Storm

I have other scenarios in the mix of course, but I like to plya EoN early to set the political scene.

Doktor festus is a nice mastermind who may link your adventures... the idea of the wizard not being the badguy is from VALVORIK's adventures reports of TGS.

The idea of his apprentice joining the skaven is quite nice too.

The elf taking the characters to Stromdorf is a nice link.

Hi all,

First time post. Midway through campaign linking EfaE, TGS, EoN, HoH, probably the feathered fiends plot and possibly Witches song depending on content.

oh yes SPOILERS.

Over arching story is based apon a Lord of Change workin from within Reikland, specifically Altdorf to bring disorder and anarchy within the social classes of the Empire. Said demon is taking the guise of a wealthy Marienburger merchant fairly recently arriving in altdorf looking for investment opportunities. Actually the demon is looking to produce counterfeit gold crowns containing warpstone, subtely introduce them amongst the wealthy elite of Altdorf and watch as the corrupting influence takes hold. The nobility, the ruling individuals of military, clergy and trade will be at risk of mutation and public execution. Following any embarrassment will be further distrust and witch hunts amongst the remaining peers of these groups.

So Lyranfaer (aka Herr Doseignor), our Lord of Change, has a few agents working for him. One is a dwarf named Zurin working as a prospector with two other unsuspecting human miners Anton Weiss and Deiter Brauznitz. Zurin and co find a small poor copper mine containing required seam of warpstone and he persuades the others to invest in it as his dwarf senses suggest there be gold here. His boss in human guise arrives a few weeks later to assess the find, buy the mine from the three, and install some cheap mining staff from nearby Hugeldal and Hahnbrandt mining communities, along with sone of his guards. The miners begin to notice they are not mining copper and some of them begin to grow tentacles, horns and such. So the guards are there to ensure they continue under threat of death. Eventually after a few weeks the mine breaks into a skaven mine from the other direction. a skirmish breaks out and the mine is collapsed. All the miners, now mutants, are put to death by the guards. Lyranfaer having the ore he requires transported to Ubersreik, then retreats to altdorf leaving the processing of the ore into coins in the capable hands of Franz Kallheimer, a merchant agent married into the Muller family of Ubersreik. Along the way Lyranfaer dutifully reports the corruption of his recently acquired mine to the temple of Sigmar so that the proper people can ensure it is cleansed in the holy and correct manner. Meanwhile Kallheimer has an illegal counterfeiter forced into making gold coins with a tasty warpstone centre. The first load is to be distributed into Altdorfs commerce via a Halfling crime family, looking at the rich and wealthy's vices and high end food and drink. The Briarbelly family believing this to be a simple money laundering exercise. The second load is a loan to an Altdorf based Merchant Trading Co falling on hard times with large debts owing to a couple of noble families, including the Von Saponathiems. The third and largest is to be mxied with some clean money, as insurance against detection, and used to purchase a long term lease on a manor house on the eastern borders or Reikland, again the seller a wealthy family with strong ties to the church of sigmar. A third agent, Kristina, a young female assassin, is sent to discreetly clean up the two miners previously associated with Zurin, both now developing minor mutations due to past exposure to the taint in the mine. Zurin is sent to the stone circle near a small farm ten miles from the Hugeldal mining community, where he is tasked with using his dwarfen know how to persuade and asist a farmer in removing some standing stones to improve his crop (see famine fiend from HoH), after all someones going to see something odd is going on round here and why miss the chance for Tzeentch to set up his old enemy Nurgle! Releasing a fallen champion of Nurgle a small price to pay for distracting the witch hunt. And in western Nordland Lyranfaer's last major agent, Bierhoff, has traced Dr Festus and is feeding him information that a Nurglite cell is planning to release the famine fiend, and to marshall all hidden cults to aid his return.

So enter the PC's. The theif character is working for the Briarbelly family as a courier. Pick up some funny money from a contact in Ubersreik and bring it to Altdorf. Any cock ups or double cross and your lifes forfeit scenario. Went straight into EfaE here, completely unrelated to main plot but made sure the leading cultists were prioritising their own necks to develop some early npc antagonists. Half a dozen got away from the lodge, fled to ubersreik and then to stromdorf. The pcs heroically hunted them down through an investigative session exploring the town of ubersreik. Set the chase from Ubersreik to Stromdorf up on the river with a stormy demon slaying midway through. On entrance to Stromdorf they had the nasty boat crash and lost the funny money to the river (really angry halfling thief pc :) ). When they eventually got to the mill and the nets they found the cultists had got there first to collect one of their own, and kindly picked up the pcs cash too. Ran TGS almost as it is written, but fed in the arrival of Anton Weiss, a miner who had just come into some money, and Kristina posing as a travelling student stuck in Stromdorf with the terible weather while she waits for the opportunity to kill Anton. Planned to have the pc's investigate his murder and find some of the receipts of sale of the third share of the mine (detailing names of buyers and sellers) as well as a small patch of tendrils growing on Antons back. Pc's suspicious and the angry halfling theif beat her to it. Killed Anton, grabbed his stuff (including some foreign Marienburg coins), tried to do the student and got his ass handed to him. Ah well thats Pc's, got there the hard way. Near the end of TGS they track Gregor and his cult down again, again most flee and a couple of deaths. This time they do retreive a dozen or so of the funny money, and with an apprentice wizard just joining the party its not to long before they discover its nature via magical sight. The three remaining cultists uprooted again flee back to Ubersreik. This time the Pc's are hot on there heels and catch them near the docks finally reclaiming the cash, and killing all but one cultist. On route to Ubersreik they meet a Witch Hunter travelling to Altdorf to obtain a writ of access from the highest authorities there (see EoN sigmar/verena issues). They also learn from him he has recently returned from burning a corrupted copper mine, more suspicion blossoms. They also rescue Von Saponathiem from his broken coach, as he is arriving early in ubersreik to begin his war of propoganda. In Ubereik they meet Franz Kallheimer, who is very helpful and tells them something of the tragedy that befell the copper mine but doesnt know the details as its all very hush hush but can confirm the other miners involved in the sale. The contact who dropped the funny money to the pc's gets back in touch with them telling them he is in hiding. After the he was attacked his shop burned, and only just escaped. He gives them the address of the counterfeiter he picked the money up from and disappears back into hiding. At the counterfeiters attic they find him tied up with his throat slit, evidence suggests he had been held prisoner for some time before being killed, and that he had possibly not been killed by his captors. Further evidence of scratch marks on doorframe suggesting his assassin was not human. I plan on running EoN as a revenge attack from the skaven for the theft of their warpstone, and these are the initial clues to that.

So following the clues drying up on that trail they left to investigate the now off limits copper mine, visiting Hahnbrandt and Hugeldal on route. In Hugeldal they picked up some clues from the farmer regarding the recent blight and the arrival of the famine fiend, and the dwarf who helped him. They are now midway through this section, riddled with diseases. When(if?) they finally discover gul proll and his cell, they will find a further handout from Dr F indicatingthat they need to support the arrival of the fallen champion near Hugeldal, sourced from a cult associate named bierhoff. After this the political events of EoN will occur emphasising the financial power of the Von Saponathiems, and suggesting they are a face for the von Jungfrueds pushing for a return to trade monopoly along the River Tuefel. Should they succeed then the relevence of this should not be lost when the Pc's will later learn of the connection of the family to the soon to be jeopardised Merchant Trading Co in Altdorf. This will finalise with Ratsnicks revenge, at which point kristina will also attempt to assassinate Dieter Brauznitz, a guest of the ball via wealth. At which point the scene of the campaign will transfer back to Altdorf as most Pc's based there, and along the way will witness a pirate attack on a trading barge. Pc's to the rescue of a poor merchants companies barge, and aboard the pirates vessell an incriminating letter detailing the specifics of the hit, along with some more of the Marienburg coinage. Interrogating the pirate captain will reveal the contact was a dwarf matching the description given by the farmer at Hugeldal. And the merchant company will be ever so grateful, they'll even pay a reward. Just as soon as they finish the journey to Altdorf and collect freshly minted gold from a new investor who has recently approached them for business...

Realize alot of this is fairly specific but hope it gives some nice ideas to some evil minded gm's. ;)

PS sorry about spelling and typos, english is my first language just not very good at it.

have fun.

Heh, heh, heh. That sounds really cool.
