Question about Nordland

By simpatikool, in WFRP Gamemasters

Guys,

I am looking at where to find some more information about Nordland. When I read the Warhammer fluff in the rule books, I am intrigued about the Sea of Claws, the idea of viking like Norsca raiding coastal towns, and integrating things like Chaos Warriors into battles.

The core game seems to inject a lot of the culture of the middle part of the Empire and how they feel about Chaos Powers. I can only imagine there is a lot more tension/apprehension and conflict at a place like Nordland, especially on the coast. Should I assume there are Empirial populations there, or has chaos overrun everything already?

Also, what happened to Hammerzeit website?

I've got some sources at home that I can give you some better information out of, but for now, I'll just say that yes, there are Empire settlements in Nordland, and they're generally as hardy and grim as you might expect from a group that is often the target of Viking-style raids.

As far as Hammerzeit, I believe the original operator left it to someone else, who wasn't able to keep it going, or simply found it unnecessary to do so (I'm not privy to the reasoning behind the full shutdown). In any case, it's no longer available.

I dont have a lot of fluff available for Nordland, Norsca, Troll Country, but i can offer some maps to help visualize or plan out adventures in the regions.

Have a look at: http://www.warpstone.org/

Not only is an awesome print fanzine for WFRP, they had a big article on the Sea of Claws a while back. There was an article on whaling too, which may have been in the same issue. If you look at the 'issues' page, you can search the contents of each one. It shouldn't take you long to find.

This is great stuff...Thanks guys.

Jackdays has done an awsome job of a fan supplement based around Norsca. I know it is written for 2nd ed but it would stille provide alot of fluff and ideas for you.

Sigmar's Heirs for 2nd ed has info on each of the main provinces and is a good PDF buy for 3rd ed as much of the info will still be relevant (although in a slightly different time line, being after the Storm of Chaos).

I can't remember much about Nordland off the top of my head, except that I believe there are tensions with the Wood Elves of Laurelorn Forest, as the Baron of Nordland is arrogant eough to claim the forest as part of his province.

Sigmar's heirs has all the info you will ever need :) Although S.H. is a 2e book, it is 95% applicable to WFRP3 because it does extensive detail of the empire. As we don't expect any similar product anytime soon for 3e, it would be wise to obtain this book (you can get the PDF for $15 online): rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php

Both of my 3e scenarios, False Pretenses, and Wolfship are both set in Hargendorf. You can download them here: gallery.rptools.net/v/contrib/emirikol7/ .

  • False Pretenses is a missing-then-returning persons scenario involving High Elf magic and is set in Schlaghugel (one of the towns noted in Sigmar's Heirs). Skolo just did a nice maptool of False Pretenses (very nice looking maps).
  • Wolfship is a disease-based scenario set in Hargendorf harbor that can easily springboard into something extensive.

Nordland has a lot going for it regarding adventure and was my first choice when WFRP3 came out (that's also why I wrote two full-length scenarios there ;)

The sea of claws is best detailed in Tome of Corruption, also available via PDF (and chock full of details and goodness on chaos..there is a fair amount of 2e crunch that will give you ideas for the monsters only vaguely covered in the 3e bestiary.

Let me know how it goes :)
