Assault Marines are commonly depicted with a pistol in one hand and a close combat weapon in the other, but can they carry more than one type of pistol into action (Example: bolter and plasma)?
Limit to # of weapons an Assault Marine can carry into battle?
Most certainly. It's even cheaper (xp-wise) to do so effectively . Only needs Two-Weapon Wielder (Ranged).
Alex
A rule of thumb going around on this forum seems to be one combat blade plus 5 hands worth of weapons, with heavy weapons taking up three.
What I came up with:
2 Hands Full of weapons
2 Side Arms
1 Combat Knife (free, can be attached anywhere)
And one backup weapon if not carrying a backpack of sorts (Ammo, Jump, etc)
(Forearm mount weapon are GM judgement)
So your assault could carry:
2 Chain Swords
2 Pistols
1 Combat Knife
or
Sacris Claymore
Chain Sword
Plasma Pistol
Combat knife
etc...
Okay, I think we can color this issue pretty much settled.
Next question, please...

Actually - it makes me wonder - that's yet another thread where people try to limit the carrying limits and end up with rules more relaxed than RAW (p. 208). Do people generally find RAW as too limiting, or is it simply that those rules are missed by most (I admit, they don't 'stand out' in the rulebook)?
How are they more relaxed than the RAW? If you went by RAW, you could carry 2-3 heavy weapons without much of a problem.

Not viable with your proposed ruling and the specifics for the Sacris claymore .
- Sacris Claymore page 170 - second to the last sentence: " A Sacris claymore replaces the Astartes combat knife, and requires two hands to wield."
This is also a chapter trapping for the Storm Wardens, and not available to Brothers of other Chapters as such. There are still quite a few combinations one could come up with, but I'd think the Sacris should utilize the Combat Knife slot and either a Hand Weapon or Sidearm slot. Just my thought on that specific case.

You can req an extra combat knife, if you've got a claymore already.

Yes, but why? Maybe if you've only got a few points of Req left and can't think of anything to really do with it, sure.

Could you point me to the actual rule allowing you more than one heavy?
From what I read an assault could carry e.g. 2 chainswords + bolt pistol, which I guess is a 'bit' more restricted than what's proposed here (one pistol, combat knife and 'one backup weapon' less) - hence my original question.
Page 208 and it actualy states it would not be reasonable....
