Horde - questions

By vogue69, in Deathwatch Rules Questions

1) If I charge attack a range-attack hord, does the horde HAVE to switch to melee or can they still shoot me?

2) Can a second hord shot at an astartes meleeing another horde?

3) Can Astartes Nr2 shoot the horde with wich Astartes Nr1 is meeling? if yes, does he get -20?

1) must use melee.

2) Most will cease fire because they will inevitably cause a lot of magnitude damage to the first horde. Chaos Cultists and the like though... hmmm... that gives me an idea. :-)

3) I would let that depend on how many beings you as the GM envision left standing. A mag 30 horde of rebels might represent 50 rebel troopers. No problem shooting them. If they only have mag 5 left, you might want to assign the -20. Or if you have a mag 20 horde of Tau FIre Warriors, representing in truth 8 to 10 of them, you might want to do so also. Determine a rough mag to actual being ratio and keep the scene updated in imagination as it unfolds, then use rule of thumb.

For 2, I say yes, but they incurr the shooting into hand to hand penalty and I'd apply the optional autofire into hand to hand rule in the sidebar (where you distribute shots between the horde and the player.

For 3, I agree it's totally circumstantial- how much of the horde's magnitude is 'shootable' versus how much marine there is in the fight, then inflict a penalty to shoot into hand to hand that feels right.

1) I would say yes - they will have to switch to melee, if only to make GM's life easier. :) It might also represent some members of the Horde still shooting, but either hitting their fellows who are stuck in melee or missing.

2) Yes, but the regular -20 penalty for shooting into melee should apply. Even a space marine (Hulking size) is mechanically smaller than a Horde, and thus anyone shooting at the space marine risks hitting the Horde instead.

3) I'd say he should be able to shoot the Horde which is in melee with another Astartes, but he should suffer the -20. On the other hand he would still get the size bonus for attacking the Horde that would cancel out the penalty, so it's not that big a deal.
